Choice of polish and wax types for less reflection?

So in a fit I bought the whole mothers car care range (not quite but on the way) to knock over a couple of belated paint care days. I'd truly never cared before but figured I'd ignored our two cars long enough and it was time.

Anyway the metallic dark blue polo got the hit first. Mothers clay kit, three stage polish seal and wax. Nine hours of careful, patient labour and the results were predictable. High gloss, wet looking smooth as paint. Only problem: in the full sun the paint was so reflective you could barely tell what colour it was. After a day of sitting around with some light dust it looked shiny blue and after another day it looked metallic again.

My question (and probably an ignorant one) is this: is there a way of polishing, sealing and waxing to an obviously metallic finish? A guy I work with has just bought himself a new Mazda 3 in metallic dark red and it's looks awesome all the time...

Maybe try just a sealant like Nanolex and not a natural Carunaba based wax? Sealants tend to last longer but not have as deep a gloss as a good wax.
Or alternatively a hybrid sealant/wax like Dodo Juice Supernatural?
Ps I am not an expert.
