    bad scratch repair?

    Hi folks,

The local (hand) carwash scratched the bonnet on my black R36. You could catch your fingernails in the scratches (in 2 places).

After some negotiation (and they were pretty good about it) they agreed to send a scratch and dent repairer to 'fix' them.

The repair was effectively a local cut and polish in the damaged areas. The scratches are now a lot less obvious but after a couple of weeks the areas repaired are clearly dulled cf the rest of the bonnet and look shocking, particularly in certain light.

    Does anyone know if:

    (a) this was an appropriate repair (as opposed to a respray or something else...)
    (b) if anything can now be done (short of a respray), ie cut and polish entire bonnet...??

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: This is probably in the wrong area - sorry, feel free to move it

What the did to repair the scartch was right in principle but wrong in its execution. The person that did the repair has aggressively cut the scratch, which is fine but they have used a filler polish which filled in all the marks from their bad buff job. These fillers have fallen out over a few weeks and what you see is the result.

The good news is that it can be repaired. You need to find a detailer that knows how to buff correctly, they will take a multi step approach and buff the area several times, each time further refining the clear until there are no marks left.

I'll be down there in January if you don't mind waiting otherwise have a search and see who people recommend.
