I take it you just paint them while they are in place?

Anyone have a decent quide to doing this as I want to do mine. At the moment 3 out of the four are painted, the last isn't and I want them all to match.

    Paint brush or spray can?

    Any hints are much appreciated.

Buy caliper paint from supercheap/repco/autobarn in can.

Clean surfaces with brake cleaner, then degrease and then dry throughly (read hairdryer!)

Mask up ANYTHING you dont want to be painted, then do lots of light coats - lots in my case was 12, and make sure that it is evenly applied.

Let to dry, remove masking and then enjoy!

Make sure you wash them when you clean the car, and if you see that they have chipped from rocks, you can always do them again.

I am going to do the MKV when the weather is kinder!

yeah, i just took the wheel off. sanded down the callipar with a 1500 grit till smooth and clean. then taped up all the way around the discs so they werent exposed.
but my tip which i didnt do. is to put a newspaper page behind the callipar too to keep the spray from going anywhere else.

make sure you also get heat proof paint. only cost something like 11 bucks. but i know someone who didnt and there brakes caught alite.

it takes about 2 coats. still got one callipar to go..
takes 45 mins to dry! make sure you dont drive till its dry and the paint may run on to discs doesnt really matter if it does as it just comes off but still annoying.

clean the caliper really well, the longer you take to prep it and mask it up the better the outcome you will get from it. VHT Caliper Spraypaint is really good. FoliaTec is the best but you cant find that too easy in AUS. preparation is everything!

heres the black gti when i did it, you cant really notice it on mine cuz of the car being so Red already lol

(Hard to see mine, only one i can find for now)

All i did on mine was use LOTS of break cleaner, then allowed to dry, then Painted. I only did 4 or so coats, but i did it while the calipers where warm, so the paint stuck realy well. I also did the rotors in gold (calipers in red).

My old car, a Magna with Bigger brakes than the VR6, i had them all full gold. Looked tits.

we have some really good paint for this at work. last time i did them for a mate, i brushed on a really crazy good metalwork sealer coat which i "borrowed" from work, then sprayed on colour 2x coats and 2x coats of clear. i did that about a year ago and they still look awesome.
