FS: NEW! MK4 Steering Conversion Kits

EAA Engineering makes racing and high performance ancillary systems for VW motorsport, including high performance steering systems, electric pump kits, fluid coolers & light weight pulleys. We have a lot of exciting new products planned, so check our FB page often!

Please "like" our new FB page: www.facebook.com/eaaengineering and visit our new website: VW power-to-manual steering conversion kits | Power Steering Rack Lines | EAA Engineering

    ------------------------------------

Orders for the MKIV EAA Engineering power-to-manual steering conversion line are now being accepted. These lines are available either in a standard blue or black nylon reinforced synthetic rubber hose & aluminum fittings, or a racing SS PTFE version, also available with blue or black fittings/adapters.

Note: Add $10 to pricing for AUS shipping

    Pricing:
Synthetic rubber $53. SS PTFE racing hose now available! $69

    De-power line & belt kit price: w/rubber line $73. w/SS racing hose $89

Note: EAA has complete kit solutions for the 2.0L, VR6 and 1.8T engines. VR6 owners can drop either PS only or PS&AC. 2.0L and 1.8T: only option currently is to drop both PS&AC together. EAA is working on an idler for 1.8T & 2.0L to be able to keep AC when deleting PS. Right now, if 1.8T or 2.0L owners purchase the $73 kit, they will receive the belt that deletes BOTH PS &AC.

Rubber de-power line, belt & billet aluminum alternator pulley (shown in the bottom right corner of the picture below) $135. With racing hose $149

Payments are accepted via Paypal @ payments@eaaengineering.com

Please feel free to send us a message with any questions (here or support@eaaengineering.com) These lines have about a 2 year heritage in MKI, II & III Vortex USA community with a lot of great feedback. Please see: www.facebook.com/eaaengineering for further details about the MKIV line! Company website: VW power-to-manual steering conversion kits | Power Steering Rack Lines | EAA Engineering

Benefits of converting to manual steering mode:

    • Performance: horsepower is freed up by eliminating the parasitic drag the power steering pump has on the engine.

    • Transitioning: the TRW and ZF power steering rack and pinion has a “longer” gear set, compared to the VW manual rack. This means there are less turns of the steering wheel required to move the wheels lock-to-lock. This is great for any type of racing where quick transitioning is required, such as autocross. (Applies to MKII & III)

    • Fuel Economy: by eliminating the power steering pump you will increase highway fuel economy. The pump wastes energy during highway driving, continually circulating fluid when the rack doesn’t even require it to assist the driver.

    • Simplify: reduce the number of components in your engine bay. It will have a simpler and cleaner look

    • Save money: if there is a problem with the power steering system, repairs are often extremely costly, especially for the rack and pinion. For $53 and ½ hour, you can be on the road again.

Here are some FAQ's I've answered recently via our support email:

Hi i am interested in the powersteering for the mk4 I have a 04 GLI what will this do for me exacly? will this eliminate PS lines? etc...

Thank you for your interest. Yes, you will be able to remove everything power steering system related with the exception of the steering rack, including: pump, line & reservoir. For the 1.8T, I have a kit with pricing of $73 that includes the de-power line and belt to remove power steering & A/C.

Since there were no manual racks available in MKIV's, those that do the conversion will be the first to give feedback about manual steering in MKIV cars. There are many people with VR6 MKIII cars that love the feel of manual steering (I specifically mention MKIII VR cars because they're in a similar weight class). Many people report improved steering feedback. It will free up a bit of torque/power and simplify your engine bay, as well.

    1. Does it work for 24v vr6?

Yes- I have MKIV VR6 kits that include the shorter belt necessary for removing PS only or PS&AC.

    2. Easy to install?
Very! Takes about an hour for the average DIY'er

    3. Hard to steer?
    This is subjective!!
Not much difference at speed, slow speed maneuvers take more effort, but that's the benefit you're trading off. Consider there are many MKIII VR6 owners that have been very satisfied with the conversion. You will achieve better steering feedback.

    4. What do I get to remove from my engine bay?
This is what most people love- everything related to PS! Reservoir, lines, pump.

    5. Does this affect anything else? AC?
You can keep AC on the VR6s- I have the correct belts to do so. For 1.8T and 2.0L, A/C needs to be removed at the same time. We are working on an idler solution for this, since we realize many people do not want to drop A/C. For now, owners can use their PS pumps as the idler by joining the inlet and outlet ports together.

    6. What is the de-power steering kit consist of (parts wise)?
The kits for MK4 consist of a hand built steering de-power line, steering rack adapters and appropriate belt (Goodyear or Continental) for dropping PS on either VR6, 2.0L or 1.8T. EAA also offers MKIV owners billet aluminum water pump and alternator pulleys, as well, which compliments the delete kits very nicely..
