VW Club in Victoria that does track days

Hi,

Just moved to Melbourne with my Golf, and was looking to join a VW Club that organises track days (like the BMW club does at Sandown and other tracks for example). Never really done any track days before but I would like to give it a shot and try and improve my driving. Is there a VW club in Melbourne for this kind of thing? I've found Volkswagen Club of Victoria but they've told me they don't do track days due to a lack of interest.

No such thing sorry Rik,

There's plenty of other great clubs that run events though. They're not brand exclusive and welcome anyone who wants to race.

I'm with PIARC.

WRX club has some great events.

Ford Four, Maserati, Maque, HSVCC, are a few other clubs you might like to check out.

best to do advance driver training before doing any track days. it is for your own benefit and others too.

Any Club in Group 5 Speed Series (which is about 8 clubs!) They invite each other to all events
Add to Peters list HAC, which has a few Golf driving members but is strongest in motorkhana, probably the cheapest to join, very welcoming... don't discount trying motorkhana and autocross for a LOT of fun
And the Mini Club, Toyota Sporting Car Club, Nissan Car Club, Packenham Car Club

Ford Four and PIARC are the most circuit based these days

i dont know what's available in VIC. but back in nsw i did mine with marrulan. that was a full day, 1/2 day theory and 1/2 day in the track (learning how to control / correct the car when it is out of control).

driving fast is extremely easy on the straight. taking corners fast need some practice. correcting the car when it lost control takes a LOT of practice and good understanding of your own car set up.

PIARC run sprints that allow driver training(ie pessengers) usually on the Sat before a competitive Sunday
Problem is most of the instructors... How can I be polite, I appreciate there is a difference between teaching and doing, but to teach you must at least be able to do at a reasonable level
Of course this all depends on your true level to start with, some people have it naturally

BTW I would do my first events as a khana, autocross or hillclimb, if you must do a sprint I would do it at Winton, not PI

The MSCA group run special 'come and try' sessions with instructors and classrooms for first timers at a discount entry. These are very good
