Can anyone tell me of the etiquette regarding a new thread as a confirmed drive? Is that ok, or best to keep this thread going?

Well that's a big day out. Took today off and went down to the end of Lions Road and back up it. 330 kms round trip to Brisbane Northside, and about 5 hours of driving total. Getting there and back is a major portion of that! Bit over 1/4 tank of diesel used, so you could almost make it in a R32.

Two things are important to note:

    1. This is not a road to "play" on.
    2. This is not a road to "play" on.

It's like the wild wild west, but a very scenic, challenging and just a downright rollacoster of an adventure. The road will be fine for all the coil over types, and only the last two bridges right at the end made me think a low car might scrape. The ride in the GT was fine, you GTI types will hurt a bit, but you're used to that. I only bottomed the GT when I hit one of the final wooden bridges at about 50km, you really need to slow down for them all, they are very deceptive in their roughness. The road crews were about half way through fixing up all the potholes around Lodestone ( 3/4 along ) where it was obviously bad and I drove through a ton of wet bitumen stones, but it should be just perfect in a few weeks time.

The drive down to about Jimboomba is pretty normal, lots of lights along Beaudesert road, so we'll need a few re-grouping points. Jimboomba to Beaudesert gets a bit monotonous, but at Beaudesert itself there's all the usual fast food outlets on the main road, and a Subway etc. The last decent sized servo's are back around Jimboomba, something to consider.

I turned onto "Lions" road at Innsplain, the turnoff is poorly marked and they give you about 100m at 100kph to turn. Gotta love the Golf brakes. I came back through Rathdowney where you just turn at the pub, either way is pretty much the same. I'd suggest Rathdowny would be a good place to regroup.

The first third is best summed up in pics:

Road is only one lane wide at times, and you'll have to take to the dirt for oncoming traffic, we will need to space out to allow for the rocks...but at least the dust is currently low!

There are cows everywhere, several grids, and you drive through a dairy farm on both sides prior to this point. Watch out for the unexpected, I came across cows on the road about 5 times...

The bridges get rather interesting to say the least. DEFINATELY only one lane wide...

Screw up, and in a lot of places you're going for a swim. Would be SO easy to do....this part is right after yet another 90 degree sharp bend.

For once none of these signs lie....listen to them!!!! Especially the 90 degree ones!!!!
I didn't pass one single bike both up and back, so that tells you something about the condition of the road.

This is much less safe than Nebo Glorious / Springbrook to me in a lot of places. The GT was bump steering at times due to the poor road, and I was taking it relatively easy!

The border crossing...you cross several grids just prior to this, and one in particular is at the top of a hill on a curve...I was driving normally and I had quite the moment...it's just after the short sharp rollacoaster hills you could easily get air off....the sheer number of things you encounter on this road is insane.

    Bring some coins!

    GREAT ADVICE!!
