    Time for a REAL drive

    UPDATED

    G'day,

There's been talk of a drive, so I thought I'd propose the following. I'm going to do it SUNDAY 5th JULY regardless of anyone else coming or not, though thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else would be keen. This isn't so much a social drive as it's quite long - though we will stop at some lookouts along the way to make it as casual and social as possible. Please check out pages 5 and 6, Cogdoc has recently done this drive and has attached photos to know what to expect (roads are sealed and can be rough in sections). It's my first drive organsied for this forum, so all I'll say is it's not a road to drive like a knob on, please be respectful to of this. Drive at the pace YOU are comfortable.

I've done this drive a few times and is an absolute sensation. It's a big day, should be less than 400km for brisbane and gold coast people, but none the less is quite a bit of driving on some of the twistiest and most scenic roads I know of in SEQ (not to mention low traffic).

I propose the Lions Road out the back of Beaudesert.

There are further links and maps throughout this thread. Please have a rough idea where we're going, also BRING A TWO WAY.

This drive will take place on Sunday 5th July.

The picnic ground at rathdowney is a good place to finish off the day, we may need to eat before than.

meeting points - I suggest that we all meet opposite Beaudesert mcdonalds before heading out together, there's plenty of room to line up if we need to. Only one set of lights to get through for the next few hundred km's too. maybe a 9-9.15am meet for a 9.30 departure?? open to suggestions.

For those that want to meet up before hand, perhaps propose a few places and sort out the route to Beaudesert relevant to where you live - and fuel required. There's no premium fuel outside of beaudesert, no idea if beaudesert has 98octane either. I'm down eightmile plains/springwood way so can meet at say springwood maccas if anyone wants.

    Attendees:
    Me
    Isaw
    Coxy
    Salem1
    Maca

    Possibles:
    Jongti
    Treza360
    AusScare

This is best map I've found of the actual road unfortunately is as above (and below again). http://bigvolcano.net/stories/lionsr...sMap790_10.jpg
I've tried various sites - but to no avail. If anyone can get, post it.

    Google doesn't have the road.
This is once we've done the fun bit through the hills ie - going direct from the A to B.
We enter at Innisplain rd, down Running Creek etc etc and come out at The Risk towards Kyogle.

Google maps has the south half of Lions Road on it. I'm pretty sure the north half of Lions Road has the alternative name of Running Creek Road. According to the maps of google though the bit that joins them along the border isn't sealed.

Definitely not a road for messing about on and I'd say a nice fine day would be more than ideal to properly enjoy it. From memory it is a pretty cool road especially if you get to see a train heading through the looping tunnel.
Might need to investigate a bit further before committing to the cruise with my nice new shiny bumper.

    Definitely interested though. Nice idea.
    Cheers,
    Trent

Done this drive twice and love it - just hope by then I'll have something that can do it justice - hey Sean
Trent's right - it is not a road to be messed with - but it is a great drive, but not for the faint hearted, car sick or those with no suspension.

thanks for that trent. It is all sealed now, certainly has been the 2 or 3 times i've done it - you're correct that there used to be a small part through the border ranges that wasn't sealed.

Sounds good then. Hopefully there's no big potholes or crazy dips in the road that will bottom out my suspension. At least I've got the skid plate installed now to protect my precious sump.
    Now for some dates...
    Cheers,

    Real Drive

    Hi

I did the Mt Lindsay Highway out through Woodenbong and up to Queen Mary Falls at Easter.

The Mt Lindsay highway certainly has some nice stretches but if you intend to go through Woodenbong (as was one suggestion) be aware that when we went through they were rebuilding the bridge and I bottomed out and scrapped the front through the road works. (and mine is standard height)

If you over look that, the road is good although some parts are a little bumpy

Thanks for posting this up, looks awesome, I wasn't aware it was there really!
I'm in if I'm free, but will do it one weekend anyway, sounds g-r-e-a-t, made for GT suspension and height!
