Thank you Paul for the organisation of these events in 2018 & we look forward to 2019.

However it was disappointing that our session was ended prematurely at 20 minutes with our marshal confirming to you that no-one had committed a misdemeanour to precipitate its cessation. In said Marshal's now predictable spiel/briefing pre-track, he suggested we should take anyone who ended the session prematurely behind the shed & "beat the crap out of them & ban them from future events"!!!!His suggestion obviously doesn't include himself!

His suggestion that we would get extra time at the next Lakeside session is little compensation to those who paid for a full session on 24/11/18 & may not be able to make the next session.

I also think his briefing remarks of a "strict 120km/hr speed limit in the straight' created a dangerous crowding of cars situation between turn1 & 2 as cars were afraid to overtake at a higher speed in the straight or, if they did, slowed acutely at turn1 as they approached a very visible said marshal with threatening red flag. There was a resulting congestion of vehicles in the back straight causing frustration which spoilt the usual free flow of our Happy Laps event.

One would believe that QR at Lakeside would appreciate our custom in view of their recent publicised fines of $29,000 since May,2018 & that they should be encouraging our participation rather than short-changing our members.Perhaps we should write to the organising body or hopefully they read this forum as stated by said marshal.

    Anyone got any further comments?

I was actually speaking to Rob Haseldine the QR event manager a little later, not particularly about this, but just in general (I work for QR on race meeting weekends and I know Rob and Justin well) and Justin came in. Justin is a good bloke and he straight up confirmed to Rob that he had stuffed up and good on him for that. We all make mistakes. Rob said why not let them go out again? Unfortunately by that time a few people had already left so that would've been a bit unfair to those that had.

It was unfortunate, particularly for those that travel a long way to get there. It was more so for those of us that also got a shortened run last time because of one BMW driver who mixed up his ability with his ambition.

I agree about the speed thing too. I was going much slower than previous events because I didn't want to be the one that caused a stoppage. My feeling as we were being directed back in was that if that is the way it is going to be in further Happy Laps, then this would be the last one that I will go to. Hopefully it won't be.

    Such is life.

Thanks again to Paul for organising it and thanks to the people that attend. It's usually a great morning and a chance to stretch the legs of your performance cars in company with friends and family without having to worry about the flash for cash machines.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son

The time we get on track is 25 minutes but we usually get an extra 5 minutes. Yes Justin stuffed up and he apologised. I'm am also sorry that we all got short changed. We have been very fortunate to have pretty fast happy lap events but last outing at lakeside saw a BMW run out of talent. This gets the organisers scared that the events are getting too fast so they get stricter in their policing. We need to remember happy laps are not race speed laps and is filled with different cars with different levels for driver experience. We have had a lot of people in the past out grow happy laps and move onto sprint and time attack event for that next level thrill.

Once again a apologise for the shortfall and hear your frustrations. I am emailing Qld Raceways to seek clarification as I too am not fussed on the scare tactics in the briefing.

    Cheers
    Paul

the same principle applies in Happy Laps, Sprint Days, Timeattack, etc... except door to door racing.

it only takes one car with reasonably more horsepower to weight ratio than others, that gives it full power on the 'straight' only... which makes it difficult for other participants who enjoy the corners more rather than a 1/4m racing. and we are only 'allowed' to overtake on the main straight. this creates 'traffic'.

i remember when all of the participants were regulars, the flow was perfect and everyone enjoyed it.

    e.g.

and one of my old clips

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport - Super Select 2WD/4WD
Toyota 86 GTS Performance Pack Moon Slate - RWD
MINI Cooper S Clubman - FWD

I totally agree with Machine and Nat...

I have to admit my first time on track I didn't quite get the etiquette and my thought was to keep the right foot planted to the floor at any opportunity. I actually now enjoy pulling over on the straight and watching a fellow enthusiast past for their enjoyment and I'll try to catch up...

thanks to Paul for organising over the year and I hope to catch up soon...
