I agree with Nat. In my mind this is way safer than a spirited road drive where you don't know what's around the next bend... Animal, stopped car, downed tree, you name it. Besides, the speed is limited at Happy Laps, right guys?![]()
happy laps event is a much safer (closed environment) enthusiastic drive to do than driving enthusiastically on mt nebo / mee / etc...
the vwwatercooled happy laps at lakeside that i have been attending to, since january 2012, there have only been a few accidents (cars came off the track) and i think all 3 were RWD cars (lotus, old bmw 3 series and new bmw m135i).
PLUS, if you want to learn to drive better, in terms of car handling, cornering, etc.. this is probably one of the best value events you can do.
come, have a look, join and play by the rules = WINNER![]()

Hi Guys,
Is it OK for me to just come and be a spectator as I know all places are full.It would be good to meet you all and get some advise on car set up etc. My concerns about insurance are based on the fact that my Audi is my living.I drive 2000k + per week and to loose her for a day could cost me $1k or more,so that is why I have to sure about things.
Gav ,it looks like you,ve excelled at organising this one great work.
free to watch, so come and check it out.
I'm the king of risk at these events as I'm not even driving my own car!
This is probably the best entry level event you can get into as there's not a great deal of traffic out there - the Downshift C&C and other copycat events which have been popping up of late all have quite a number of cars out there and it feels a bit claustrophobic at times.
It's worth coming down and spectating for the half hour, might inspire you enough to get out there next time.
Crash my car and i'll eat you
Try ride shot gun with one of the more experienced out there, Nat runs in TimeAttack and knows the track exceptionally well at a Happy Lap and race pace. Drive within your ability, learn the lines, braking points and camber/grip changes of the circuit and it'll be as safe, or moreso than any road you'll drive on, albeit in a more controlled environment.
Track Car: 06 Polo GTI Red Devil mkII
Daily: 2010 VW Jetta Highline
Gone but not forgotten: 08 Polo GTI
