In the latest development for the event this year, Brad Young and Westside Mufflers has stepped-up to partner VWMA as the major sponsor for the Warwick round in the 2013 series. This is a welcome addition to the weekend and guarantees a strong development for the event, which still rates as the most popular venue in the eight year history of the series.
Brad is well known amongst the VW drag racing fraternity and his drag Beetle Junka always the talk of the series. Westside Mufflers is based at Unit 9B / 78 Gibson Ave Padstow in NSW and is renowned for their custom exhaust and fabrication work. The Tappet Cover Racing for 2013 has also received sponsorship status with Klub VW Darling Downs providing the goodies and even a trophy for overall winner. The Klub had quite a few members competing last year and enjoyed it so much that they decided to sponsor the fun. Of course none of the racing would happen without the VWDCQ's track, which is graciously loaned to the drags each year, along with the tents on the hill that provide cover for the spectators.
Darren Hobson and Letter Art Signs & Graphics will again sponsor the custom licence plates that are awarded to all the drivers who qualify for the Top VW Shootout. This year the cut-off time is 7.40! To bring you up to speed, Darren also prints the bumper stickers and banners for each series and does a top job.
Next week a PDF file of the programme will be emailed to all competitors to assist you with a rough guide of proceedings.
This is the last week for registrations for the Warwick event. Entries close this Friday 27th September. Being on time helps myself and Jo Sinclair organise all the data for the tower so that scrutineering on Saturday is quick and efficient and racing can then start sooner. Please check that your helmet complies (http://www.andra.com.au/images/stori...%20guide_b.pdf), that you have all the correct attire and that your vehicle will pass scrutineering.
Many VW drag racers already know that Rebecca Roberts has begun an Australian Drag Racing Facebook page. Rebecca has produced an excellent resource for VW drag racing and I encourage one and all to participate and enjoy the up to the minute happenings around the country. Please visit https://www.facebook.com/VwDragRacingAustralia
A few years ago HyPerformance Videos attended the Warwick round and produced an excellent video of the two day event. Shane Sollitt and his crew will be back for 2013 with four cameras setup to capture all the action. There will be a representative from HyPerformance Videos wandering the pits all weekend taking orders, so don't miss the opportunity to grab a copy.
The Saturday morning street parade and static display is on once again on Saturday morning. I encourage all to attend. I know that loading the trailer and towing the cars into town takes some effort, but the exercise promotes our sport and hobby, and brings a few more locals out to the track for a look.
Great racing and great weather. The Mk1 Driver's Group turned on a great display of driving. Here's one photo from the day. More can be found at https://www.facebook.com/Mk1Driversgroup
