Yes I do miss the old Tig1. Though I can drive my wife's Tig2 anytime but it's not quite the same. And no I'm not going to lower it and tune it as she says she can already drag most things off at the lights as-is

Anyway $200 to drive someone else's brand new car around a race track with an instructor using their petrol, tryes and brakes is a pretty reasonable deal. Oh and a nice lunch too

I know there's a few people going on Tuesday for "free".

I'm assuming they don't let you push it hard enough to risk that too much.

Yeah definitely don't let people loose in the cars. You have an instructor in the car at all times and they pretty much tell you when to brake so that people don't over-cook it.

Also if you don't listen to the instructors then they tend to get pissed and you risk getting yourself black flagged for future events.

One of the driving instructors told us about a horror story from an AMG drive day at Mount Panorama where they can hit some serious speeds. One guy just thought he could plant his foot and steer the car around the track.... Needless to say he ran into the kitty litter at the end of the back straight and his drive ended pretty shortly after that.

Anyone else heading along to the VW Driving Experience at Mallala this week?

I'll be there on Thursday morning, the session which still has the most vacancies. It was the only day that I could get off work, so I'm happy.

The event is for testing out the other models, eg. Scirocco R, Golf R, and some others. You don't drive your own car hehe, my tyres and brakes are worth a lot more than the $200 entry fee!

Ironically, this was the day I scheduled my repair with German Autos to fix my own car but I postponed that to go thrash someone else's.

(Also, I accidentally said Wed arvo, it is actually Thurs arvo I'm going if anyone else is in that session.)

Well today it was wet. Not that it was such a bad thing as it made things a bit more interesting.

For those that have been to previous VWDE, the event was run quite differently (=better) this year to previous years. Firstly a lot of the instructors were current V8 Supercar drivers, second the exercises that we did were quite a bit more challenging and third the laps were run without an instructor in the car giving you directions.

Today was the Evolution course which had four exercises:

• corner
• avoidance exercise with return to lane
• emergency brake with decision
• Scandinavian flick

The Scandinavian flick used the Scirocco with all traction control and stability control turned off. Certainly a whole lot of fun in the wet

Laps were again too short - out and back lap in both Scirocco and Golf R. You were just starting to get into it when you got dragged in. Laps were done in a group of 5 cars - lead car and tail car with instructors and middle 3 cars with participants following along keeping the same lines. Instructors would go faster if everyone was together and slow up if things got messy.

Drove 3 cars today - GTI PP, Golf R and Scirocco R.

Tomorrow until Thursday will also run the Polo GTI.
