Your thoughts and advice pls on a once off delay to scheduled servicing.

    Hi everyone,

I had the 60,000km dealer service done on my 130Tdi MY13.5 CC not so long ago.

I'm going to be driving east again to Sydney and Melbourne in late Feb 2016.

By my reckoning, mileage will be somewhere between 67,000 - 68,000km by the time I start heading east.

My dilemma is whether to do the 75,000km service well before it's due then go on the road trip, or do the road trip first then the 75,000km service when I get back. If the latter, I expect mileage to be around 77,000km or possibly around 78,000km.

I'm thinking since the trip will consist of predominantly long distance, sustained 100++kph runs, it might be OK to delay the servicing till I get back. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

I would say that it if it is all highway driving, then it should be fine. But if it is country side driving then get it done earlier.

Or, take a can of oil with you, oil filter, some simple tools and get it done on the road

Generally speaking, you can be 1 month or 1000km late for your any 15,000km service and 2 months or 2,000km for any 30,000km service without any affect on your warranty. Anything higher than that you're at the VW mercy.

From a purely technical standpoint you'll be fine to delay it - assuming they have used 504.00 spec oil. I've done used oil analysis on 504.00 at 15,000km and the numbers read like new oil despite it looking black as night.

OTOH, it won't hurt to get an interim change done and it should only cost around $200-$250

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I'll bite the bullet and just get an intermediate service done before I leave. Small hit in the back pocket for peace of mind.

    Cheers,

We do have a choice of VW dealers on the East Coast which I am sure one would be happy to take some money off you while they do the service for you

True.... but I'd rather be robbed by my local dealer than an interstate one . Gotta do my bit to support our WA local economy, which apparently is tanking at the moment.....
