Not too sure with the newer Tdi's, but I run in a turbo diesel (manual transmission mind you) by driving normally 80% of the time, 10% of the time with brisk acceleration uphill to 3000 - 3500 RPM to "load" the injectors. 5% of the time would be "lugging" the engine in the max torque band (i.e. highest possible gear going up hill) and the remaining 5% for max engine compression eg coming down a hill in a gear which is suitable to maintain speed without accelerating or decelerating. I only need to do this for the first 1,500km or so, after that she's good.

i have no idea what you mean by "load the injectors". Injectors are basically an electronivcally activated on/off valve. You need to get some pressure in behind the piston rings to seat them against the bore.

The 1HD-FTE engine in my fourby has just ticked over 476,400km and is still running as sweet as the day I bought it. Fuel consumption has not deteriorated and has been very steady (fuel records kept from when I picked up the old girl from the dealer with 0.6 km on the clock). Doesn't burn oil at all. Rest of the old girl however is looking a bit battle scarred. LOL.

good engines them. IMO, ring technology has gone backwards since then as manufacturers chase fuel economy. There's a lot less ring tension now, so you have to force the rings against the bore during the first few thousand km. I don't think these engines are run-in until 15,000-25,000km

Just spotted this thread. I have a 2010 TDI CC from new. I have done 120,000 + kms. I travel 65 kms each way to work on freeway and city routes. Average speed 65 km/hr. over the past 3.5 yrs I regularly get 1,000 kms out of a tank. Avg 5.5 l/100km.

If yous are still interested, Driving around Canberra I get 1150km per tank (shortly after the fuel light turns on).
I haven't done much long distance but soon have a trip to SA I can measure if your still interested.

Just goes to show VW CC TDI owners are a happy bunch at the fuel pump, having seen it less frequently than drivers of other cars lol.

5.x L/100km is in the realm of small compact buzz boxes.

Have done two trips from Brisbane to Coffs and return.

First one in the POLO got 5.1L per 100km Second trip in the PASSAT got 5.9L per 100km Both were done keeping up to the speed limit plus a bit at times. Definitely no Nana driving. A bit of running around at Coffs so put some in the tank to be safe on return.

Added the litres on the fuel dockets and filled at usual pump when I got back so was accurate.

If I was going by "the tankful"method of calculating I could say. I also did trip in my Landcruiser. I got down and back on a tankful in all 3 vehicles.

All good a tankful each Ha ha 44L in Polo 70L in Passat 145L in Cruiser " But I still did it on a tankful so must be good"
