    CC Busted wing mirror.

Clipped a pole with my drivers wing mirror and busted the clear plastic of the LED indicator, the black plastic below the indicator and also the black plastic around the mirror. Luckily the colour coded shell is okay and the thing still works correctly.

I don't know who is best to fix this, a panel beater, VW service, an auto electrician or DIY.
I figure VW service will do the better job but charge an insane amount. The others may charge a more reasonable amount but may not be as experienced.

After thinking about it for a while, I don’t know how to proceed.
Does the whole thing have to be replaced or just the busted LED indicator and plastic bits?

Any thoughts would be helpful. At the moment the only valid option I can see is to give it to VW service to fix.

VW Parts was very helpful. I don't have to buy the entire wing mirror unit, only the broken parts. They supplied me with an exploded diagram and I was able to identify the parts I needed.

I then spoke to the service manager who confirmed the needed parts, suggested I order them and to drop round to service for the repair when I have the parts. It would take maybe 30 minutes and cost about $50 labour.

I’m going to need (3) Trim $27.30 and (7) turnsignal $54.56. The turn signal part is the base of the wing mirror assembly and includes the turn signal LEDs.

Not sure if how similar the mirrors are but I did a similar thing on a MK6 golf. just cracked the thin clear strip that houses the four lights. anyway took it to a dealer and was fixed for under AUD100. from memory $35 for the piece and $60 to fit. Good luck and be thankful you didn't smash the entire unit...
    Cheers
