130TDI CC New Owner Fuel Economy and RNS510 DVD Questions

    Hi All

I just bought a demo 130Tdi and drove it from Bathurst to Melbourne. Total distance was 800kms. Stopped 4 times.

The average fuel consumption was 6.5L/100KM. Air Con was on. I was the only passenger and nothing in the boot.

Cruising Speed was 125kms/hr . Average speed was 105km/h.

    Questions:

    1. I used to have a 103kw TDI 3C Passat and I swear I could have achieved better economy. Is this a question of the car being new and the fuel economy will improve?

Everyday driving is average about 7.7L/100km. In the Passat i used to get 7.2l/km

Any advice on this would be great.

    2. Do I need to remove the Sat Nav DVD to be able to play a DVD movie?

    3. Am I able to load movies on the HDD and will it play?

    Much Appreciated
    A

    1) This is a more powerful engine, and a brand-new one, in a heavier car. Yes, economy should improve as the engine wears in (expect it to get better right up to 10,000km or so), but no guarantees it'll beat the 103TDI on economy overall.

    2) Yes, the RNS-510 has one DVD slot only. The Sat Nav DVD does not need to be in the drive; the maps should be installed on the hard drive. If not, follow the instructions on the map disc case to install them, or speak to your local service department.

    3) No. DVD videos must be in the drive to be played back.

All your questions about the RNS-510 are answered in the VW Car Audio and Electronics forum.

Probably due to your cruising speed I would say as consumption goes up in relation to speed.

Incidentally I wouldn't be posting figures like that on a public forum Who knows whos reading it

I get just under 6 at a legal cruising speed in my 125TDI.

Keep in mind that a cruising speed of 125 on the speedo is more like 115-118 actual

Yep true I usually use cruise at 106 which is 100 actual according to the reading in the secret menu.

I have a MY13.5 CC130Tdi picked up in late Sept and currently have 4700kms on the clock.

First off, I can confirm that the speedo on my CC reads 5km/h OVER the actual speed. I've verified it with three different GPS units (mobile phone, and two different Garmin handheld GPS units).

My test results were as follows :-

    Speedometer 30km/h Actual 25km/h
    Speedometer 40km/h Actual 35km/h
    Speedometer 50km/h Actual 45km/h
    Speedometer 60km/h Actual 55km/h
    Speedometer 70km/h Actual 65km/h
    Speedometer 80km/h Actual 75km/h
    Speedometer 90km/h Actual 85km/h
    Speedometer 100km/h Actual 95km/h
    Speedometer 110km/h Actual 105km/h
Speedometer 110km/h++ Actual speed would be 5km/h less than indicated speed on the basis of the above readings.

Cruising at 115km/h (indicated speed, i.e. 110km/h actual speed), fuel consumption is 5.2L/100km with no major hills or inclines. If you're driving in very hilly country, expect at least mid 8s in terms of L/100km
Combined City/freeway driving, fuel consumption is 6.5L/100km. The 7.7L/100km you say you're getting is not too far fetched.
Heavy stop start traffic (with Bluemotion ON) : 11 - 12L/100km but YMMV
Heavy stop start traffic (Bluemotion OFF) : 13 - 14L/100km but YMMV

Navigation maps are installed on the HDD, and I understand they are updated via the SD Card slot (I may be wrong here). Having said that, I'm a bit disappointed with the maps because they don't seem to be up to date (For example, there are apparently no street numbers on Beasley Rd, Willetton even though it's an ESTABLISHED suburban street and it's goes quite a long way. It also really bugs me that the system only states route numbers for major roads instead of names. For example, it would say "S30" instead of "Shepparton Rd".

You can burn your own DVD Video discs and watch them on the RNS510.

Navigation maps are loaded via DVD on an RNS510 The latest map is V6 or map version 7920

You are learning that the mapping system is basically crap compared to an $80 Naviga8r from Aldi LOL

It also never says turn into ????Smith St It just says turn here, usually 25m before the actual turn Most annoying

Well, at least the updates will be free. Apparently you just need to ask for the update when you drop your car off at the dealers for servicing.

Good luck with that, they sell them for about $100 most of the time although as I bought two cars I got 2 renewals free and the rest off here when they get posted.
They don't give much away for free.
