I took one for a drive this morning, has a nice note to it when it gets going.
You do have to go down a gear to get power if you really want it, but its fine at suburb speeds.

Beautiful tight handling, VW really are excelling themselves with this electromechanical steering on the up!
Interestingly this is the first VW in a long time you don't have to push to get reverse !!!

I haven't driven a Polo Trendline so can't say anything.
The up! this side of a Polo 77TSI Comfortline has more character to it than the Polo Trendline.

She'd buy one in a heartbeat if we were in the market for another car.

With 3 MK1 Golfs, a B1 Passat, an Amarok and a '59 Beetle we're not about to run out of cars anytime soon.

I like the look of the Up, some of the internal features are reminiscent of the air cooled Beetles and their approach to cost control.

The vinyl seats in the model above are an example as is all the exposed steel inside the doors.

Even the same 165 width tyres of the air cooled cars!

Not as fast as the 1800 powered MK1, but not much is, plenty zippy enough around town even with a couple of people on board.

Cool thanks for the pics it's the first Up I've seen with the Comfort Style pack. Not really sure whether the wheels, fog lights and the leatherette seats are worth extra 2.5k though.

I had a look at one today. The Sat Nav thing is a nice touch, cheap enough option and looks a billion times better than that bluetooth thing in the Polos. I'd still prefer the RNS over the add on, but it's better. The sales guy was also saying map updates are free (for three years I think??)

You can see how they have cut costs with all the bare metal and sparse interior, but for what it is it is very nice.

It drives quite nicely and shifts very smoothly. Off the line it seems not too bad but after that it does start to feel a little lacking for my liking... I just keep waiting for the turbo to kick in and it just doesn't happen. Same as when I drove the 1.4 NA Polo, getting back into the 103kW Multivan and it feels like it would leave the up! for dead. Sure it's more powerful but it's also fractionally bigger :S

All that aside, as a run around town car I can see it having a huge market, but the price is still going to get up a bit once you add on dealer delivery and on roads.

I'm going to test drive one on Wednesday hopefully. If it drives nicely then I might consider it. Looking at getting back into a Polo 9n3 TDI but I do like the interior on the Up! Alot of the reviews say it's going to be the next big thing for VW.
