    What more to my 1.6?

    I would like my golf to go a little harder.

    The 1.6L carbie engine stats are:

    1.6L rebored to 1.7L
    Head is ported. Intake and exhaust
    Compression up to 10.4:1
    Weber is a 32/21 of Renault 12 (I think) with oversized jets
    Cold air intake with Rush02 foam air filter
    Standard exhaust manifold
    Diesel fuel tank and lines
    Mk1 GTI gearbox

    I want a little more bang altho I do realise you can only do so much to 1.6

    Considering the engine stats would twin webers/dellortos improve the performace much?

    What about a different cam?

    Anything else?

    You haven't mentioned a change of camshaft, that would be worth a few neddies

    How long is a piece of string mate??

    That's tough to say, I would have a look at some of the cam makers site, try Kent cams and Piper too. Techtonics have a good rep for supplying cams, don't go too wild though, 270 or 280 degrees. Schrick are the daddies but cost lots.

    Ok, you've got some port work done - a reasoanble cam and a twim 40 side-drafts would totally transform it.
    I agree though - don't go too wild on the cam - 280 tops, probably 270 if its your normal road car (maybe even milder). I had a 290 in my MkI daily driver some years ago - too big. Swapped it for 280, which was still pretty meaty...

    One word of warning though - the engine you'd end up with will be a totally different beast to the one in Bluerex's yellow MkI - little torque in the bottom end, but it'd rev like blazes...
    If you are going to do that, then I'd consider balancing all the internals one day

    I was going to get the flywheel lightened when Its going to be time to change the cluch. That could be a while though lol.

    Sounds like an aftermarket camshaft is the way to go. I really dont want anything too crazy. I want the car to drive nicely.
    Ill check out techtonics. Who else supplies cams that arnt to pricey?

    So I should be looking at something like this one from techtonics;

    8V Solid Lifter camshaft 280°/276° .449/445", 243°/240° degress duration @ .050". Rough idle. Great high end power

    I want a more than a G-grind cam.
