I've dusted two MkV GTIs. I haven't done any modifications myself but am aware of a DV and exhaust change - I'm positive it's been chipped too because otherwise a near stock MkIV wouldn't be as quick.
Plenty of other boring cars... No one else really wants a go haha
I hope these races took place in a controlled environment like a racetrack/dragstrip.
Yes, i'd say that your car would need a chip for increased boost to even have a chance. Motor Magazine quote 16.3 sec 1/4mile for your car (stock). The MkV is in the 14s (stokck) so you can't even compare the two technically.
And yes, that is a lot of power extracted from that K20A in the DC5. Mind you a figure near 25K was spent on that engine, using premium hardware like TODA. I think it has TODA everything.
AFAIK, there is no feeling like a powerful NA engine on full noise. The power delivery is linear in general, and seems almost endless. Persoanally, i love it.
That DC5 beats EVOs and STIs down the main straight so it really does move along. With slicks it would easily do mid 12s, possible 11s, i reckon. I've read about one with similar specs do mid 12s on another forum.
