Anyone?...
Ok Guys
So yesterday I took apart the head from the block cause I am looking at polishing the head asthetically.
I am not really looking for crazy power at the moment and I have cams, chip and soon to have schrick which will give me a decent power increase.
My cams and chip will be for sale eventually as I want to go forced induction, with the kind of setup I am looking at, it uses stock cams.
So my reason for this thread is what can I do to the block to freshin it up, and I am not looking at spending alot very minimal I just want to recondition it so to speak.
Is acid dipping the block any good and how much does it cost?

mate, heres how i see it:
1. you are saying you are getting a chip and cams, but you are going to go FI later - that makes no economic sense. right now, you have the engine out of the car and apart - a perfect opportunity to do some work for the future, yet you have conflicting aspirations for the vehicle. if you ARE going to go FI, forget about cams and chips now, and get some lower compression pistons. while your inside the engine, maybe get some new rods of get your current rods shot-peened for longevity. thats really about all you would do. if your oging FI, you dont want to remove any material from the crank. nor do you want to increase the CR of hte engine with high comp pistons. if you cant afford it, and you really are going to go forced induction later, then simply pull the pistons/rods, de-carbon the pistons manually, put in a new set of rings and make sure your crank and rod bearings are within wear specs.
2. forget FI - take advantage of the time you have now. pull the pistons and rods and crank. have the crank balances, and get some high comrpession pistons. put in new bearings and rigns, and your ready for your new cams and chip, and a healthy, powerful engine. most of the things you might do to improve the engines FI output will hinder power output for an N/A setup... so forget it, and choose one way or the other

Cheers for that Ayden, I was saying ATM I have cams and chip but will want to go down the FI route.
I might get the pistons rods, decarbon as you said dont really want to do much to the engine itself. Not looking for something crazy HP just something that is nice!

get the bay painted, polish the head, take it to matts for the timing and lets put it back together then wheels to finish. happy days. then save up for the wedding.
If you strip it, get the block hotwashed. Get the plugs pulled on your crank and block and get the oil galleries flushed.
Spray some WD40 on the bores for christ sake dude.
That doesn't look good.

If I get the chance to take my engine apart while still having a daily to fang around in, I'm definitely going to look into replacing things like rings and bearings and getting everything flushed/balanced properly.
I'd agree with Aydan simply because I know he knows good things! It makes sense to either choose to go down the forced induction route NOW, or not at all, because doing the job twice is going to cost more money, time, effort and the big VR6-related word, HASSLE. Personally, if I were at your stage I'd just want to renew the engine and keep it healthy. My opinion is that doing what I first mentioned would be the best way to go about this . Think of it as a mini rebuild! It's going to feel like new and have all the power that would have been potentially lost from 15 years of use .
By all means, if something I said isn't technically correct or whatever, someone in the know may correct me with no mercy
