I'd be curious to hear what the dealer service departments think about all this. Basically I will just get my car serviced at a private VW specialist mechanic. So the dealers lose business. Probably not a huge amount though I guess.
So they have effectively taken any chance of tuning being ignored at a local level, that might put a downer on the tuning industry apart from the few who accept the risk.

If the scenario is as it has been reported the dealers have no say in the matter, dealers of any brand do what they are told with little or no input into brand policy. The reason new showrooms get built for instance is that manufacturers get told to build them and not because they want to spend all that money. If you choose to service your car elsewhere because your car is modified and you can't lodge a warranty claim because of it they save money. In the time the warranty repair would have taken at just about cost price to the service dept they can get paid full retail dollars for those hours so it is in fact a win for them.
That hasn't been my experience. I had a few warranty issues with my GTI, including a blown engine. It was tuned and some minor engine bolt ons. My local VW dealer looked after me pretty well, didn't make any issue out of the mods, and even went in to bat for me to get the engine done for free (it was 6 months out of warranty). I suspect now if the reporting is automated back to HQ then they won't be able to use this sort of discretion with their loyal customers.
Could always go with an ABT tuning box, if your willing to pay big $$$ so that you have a 2 year warranty safety net.
The German ABT website states their 7.5 R tune is 294kw/500nm if you go with their down pipe as well - we will get less power due to our fuel quality I bet.
CURRENT: MY18 Lapiz Blue Golf R Wagon - Wolfsburg Edition with Panoramic Roof

SOLD: MY07 Reflex Silver Golf GTI - DSG, Sunroof, Chipped UK ST3 Tune, New South Performance Indigo Gauges, Custom stereo by FHRX Studios
Abt tunes are very conservative due to there being a 2 year warranty attached to it
Still good for peace of mind tho
After some advice on this one..if anyone can assist. I purchased from dealer (not VW dealer) 2012 Golf R MK 6.
Has after market down pipe, high flow catback (CTS), Tarmac air filter kit and heat shield so given those add ons and its performance I am assuming that it has been tuned to some degree, attempting to find out..(process of elimination with tuners in OZ via VIN id) My problem is the car is due for service (66k). My question is if I take the car to the dealers : 1. Will they know if its tuned? 2. Will they remove the tune? 3. Do I need to tell them its tuned before hand? As I have a very limited for choice of service agents up here in Darwin I would like some advice prior to taking her in to the VW dealer.Cheers
The discussion here has centred around cars that are currently within the factory warranty period, what you do with your car after that is your concern so the dealer will not be worried all he wants is your continued appearance at the service counter handing over money.
It will be tuned. You can't have a DP in without throwing a CEL. Only way to do it is to tune it. Dealer won't need to be a rocket scientist to know it's been tuned. If you want to take it to the dealer rather than an independent (not sure what your options are in Darwin), then make sure they don't update the software on it or you could have all sorts of issues. I'd actually try and find the previous owner and find out the history if you can.
