Thread: Viezu Tuning on Golf R....WOW!

    Got the motorsport map loaded on the weekend. What can I saw..AWESOME. Like the others with the same map on their R's, I too now have a smile from ear to ear when I give it a bootful. Also, the clean, crisp DSG shifts are back.

    Very happy with the tune and John from Tigersoft has been super helpful!

    I am currently runnng the Viezu motorsport tune. Last night I put it down the Kwinana drag strip at their Whoop Ass Wednesday meet. Here is my best run, which was my first run of the night.



    I am one happy chappy.

    0.9 second reaction time man ?! c'mon you can do better than that (!)

    Seriously impressed - thanks to everyone who's posting their 1/4 mile times - we get a lot of flack at the moment saying it's not possible to put down the times we do - especially with the smooth drivability etc etc etc.

    Not sure what else to say other than - take a look as these sheets that are popping up.

    Others say we're over-boosting... Well let's just say we are not, the ECU won't allow you too without it spiking....

    You guys get to enjoy the results

    Was more worried about getting the revs right for the launch. Poor guy in the V8 next to me must of been wondering what happened when I past him half way up the strip. Later on during the night I also put down an AU XR8 that was also running a supercharger. A few surprised people when we were lining up in the lanes for our runs.

    For eveyone else, this car is my daily driver. I do a minimum 90kms a day just going to and from the office; more if I go out and see clients. Currently has around 31,500 kms on the clock. With regards to boost, with the current tune I have only seen a max of high 18s per my P3 gauge, so definitely not overboosting.

    Hey guys - I just thought I'd share my Viezu experience plus put up some pics of the "V-Switch" unit.

    After reading up many forum threads, not only on this forum but others - and looking at everyone's "e-opinion" on the various tunes that are out there - I myself decided that the Viezu "Motorsport" tune was the one for me. I wanted a custom tune, that was more aggressive than Superchips/Bluefin, but that I could load/unload myself. The Viezu tune with the V-Switch unit ticked all the boxes.

    Like everyone else here - I just pinged Simon and email, and I was put in touch with the Brisbane rep (Greg from Carformance - Carformance | Custom Viezu ECU Tuning Brisbane | Volkswagen GTI Audi VW parts | Diesel TDI DPF Performance | Oil Catch Cans Blowby).

    Greg contacted me via email and we had a quick chat about what I wanted. He had some V-Switches coming in, and this week they arrived. He promptly pinged me to let me know, and yesterday things kicked off.

    This is what you get in the V-Switch box...


    You can see you get the v-switch unit itself, a USB cable to connect to a PC/laptop, the software & user manual, and the cable to connect to the car.

    The first thing is to do a read of the stock tune of the car. This is done by plugging in the V-Switch, following the instructions on screen (which is essentially to turn the ignition on), and select "Read file from ECU". This part takes around 15-20min.

    Greg did this step for me in the carpark yesterday, but it would be easy enough to do yourself if you didn't have anybody to do it for you. You plug the V-Switch unit into your laptop (assuming the software is installed), and you read the file from the V-switch and save it to your laptop. This file then gets sent to Viezu where they work their magic.

    A few hours later - the original file is returned along with the tune file(s). The V-Switch unit can hold 3 tunes (including your stock one).

    Now you simply load the new tuned file onto the V-Switch unit. This takes maybe 5 mins.



    You go to the car, plug in the V-Switch which powers up automatically - and you select "Write file to ECU". It'll then ask you to turn the ignition on.



    The whole process reminds me very much of flashing a BIOS on a PC. First the unit does an erase. When this happened - I noticed all my dash lights come on.





    Once again - the process took around 15mins to complete. When done, I followed the instructions to turn the ignition on/off a couple more times, before removing the V-Switch unit.

    That's it. Process complete. Very easy to do.

    I've only managed to take the R for a quick spin around my estate for 10mins, and I have noticed already the car feels "punchier". Like others have said - the whole thing just feels better. Like someone turned up the contrast of the performance. "D" doesn't feel as lethargic anymore, "S" is very snappy and the car certainly pulls harder.

    I've been advised it may take a couple of days worth of driving for the new tune to fully kick in - so I'll post my thoughts on how the car has developed and what I've noticed change.

    One thing I have noticed immediatly (which I took a recording of on my phone), is that there is now a resonate "chopping whistle" sound or something, which seems to come from the drivers side, at the front - possibly from under the car or from behind the engine.

    At first it may sound like wheel spin or chirping, but it's not. It's only when I'm at WOT on full boost, and I'm sure it's only during some part of the rev range. I think it's just a resonance of sound or air or something.

    Like others have said - Simon has been very helpful and Greg from Carformance has gone out of his way to make sure I'm happy. It's been a really great experience.

    Tomorrow I'll get to really drive the car (for some distance) - I'm looking forward to stretching its legs on the highway merge.

    Looking good !

    For sure you will need to allow the car to adjust to its new capabilities in lay terms - Both the engine and the DSG especially. 300-500km is the official line - it'll be great straight away but you'll realise just how fast after a good few hundred km. Some WOT runs low to high revs will sort it right out too...

    Have fun ! And feedback is always welcomed so keep it coming ! And anything you think you have a query on come straight back to us of course. And if you're not well into the 4's we need to know asap (!)

    I can't hear it properly, but I'd say compressor surge.
