    It would not make sense to remove the high flow Wintake filter and leave the very restrictive panel filter. I have removed the panel filter from the engine cover airbox so just have the Wintake filter. This means that although the air still goes through the airbox that is sitting on top of the hot engine (never understood that design!) it won't be there as long as it does not have to pass through a filter, so it should remain cool(er).

    Make sure you seal the two halves of the engine cover, the original filter acts as a gasket - if you remove the filter entirely, you will leave a gap that can allow unfiltered air through. One option is cut the centre out of your old filter & refit the rubber.

    That's a very good point! Although the two halves of the engine cover/airbox are held together with about 8 screws I guess I should make sure that it is sealed right through. I will be taking it apart again at the weekend to cut part of the cover away so will check it seals up well. Using the seal from the old filter is a good tip, thanks.
