you should be ok without running any choke, i never did no mine and even started first time in the welsh winters!!!...just ideling is abit of a pain while cold.
Hey all, so I will be putting a new engine in my mk1 soon (heron motor) and want to run it on twin carbs.
Quick question, I am retaining the auto gearbox as it is more of a cruiser than a brawler. I am guessing that I will need a manual choke on something like twin 40 dellorto's or weber's?
Lastly, what is the most readily available manifold to fit duel carbs onto an 8v?
I have found these and from what my little knowledge tells me, all I would need would be a manifold and choke? Is this wrong?

No choke required.

Bit fiddly setting up the kick down but other wise Shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for that link Pete, its great.
How would I go about setting up the kick down?
Not sure, I haven't really had much of a look at the auto setup in a MK1.
I'm guessing it's an electrical kick down switch on the carb?
I'd just take a look at what's there and try to replicate it.
Just thinking about things , a vacuum resevoir might be a good idea if the auto needs vacuum for anything.

You just need a choke cable. You can buy one from any auto joint. Very easy to install (VERY easy). If i were you i would fit one. Make it nicer with the auto if you ever need it.
DCOE's have a "choke" built into them. The 'E' in DCOE stands for "Enrichment", ie, it has an enrichment device.
The beauty of these is that they don't actually "choke" the engine, they simply enrich the mixture, adding additional emulsified fuel to the charge. The chokes are a bit noisy at idle (sounds like you have a vacuum leak), but they work bloody well.
If you want i can probably get my old choke cable off the Mk1, get my carbies out and mount them to a manifold and take sound pics showing you how it works....
Also, www.vwparadise.com I recommend these guys highly. They specialise (and i mean SPECIALISE) in aircooleds but they can supply a DCOE kit for you at a good price and their service is brilliant! (Do a YouTube search for "The Nail" while you're at it..)

Auto trans set up has the cable going from the pedal to the transmission, then another cable going from that lever to the carby..It should all be on the trans you have in the car now Cam.
Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...
If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
Cheers,

I have purchased a 32-36 weber with passat ts manifold off this forum, I am also considering buying some 40 dcoes and a manifold from rowland manifolds in sa (thanks again Pete) to get set up right, then ill have two set ups to choose from. What do you guys think?
I am guessing the one ill need for duel dcoes is
