I had the APR full exhaust with the GIAC Extreme...But converted to the TurboXS a few months ago....

The gains were impressive to say te least.

Fab, can you post the before & after dyno's of the dump pipe differences (and conditions for reference) please, because I have seen the opposite.

Also do you understand that a 100 cell cat will not pass an emissions sniff test in any state? More power, but illegal.

I was told 100cell cats don't make much if any difference if you are making under 500hp. Is this true or is there a difference? If there is what sort of power difference are we talking?

    Hi Guy,

Would you really like me to post the before and after dyno up?

Re 100 cell cats being illegal, thats not my understanding of emission laws. I believe some tuned cars would fail the sniff test regardless of 100 or 200 cell cats used.

I'll do some extra research but i also believe the regs for this don't actually say these are illegal - there is just no reference to cats, just what crap is coming out the pipes.

Im happy to be proven wrong however.

Technically in Victoria its illegal to change the number of cats in an exhaust. Given there are 2 on the standard downpipe wouldnt that make all aftermarket downpipes unroadworthy no matter how man Cell the replacement cat is?

I wouldnt be surprised if the law is the same in other states as well.

I guess the thing is, at the end of the day we are all car enthusiasts and favour power more than emissions, and willing to take a little more risk when it comes to legal/illegal modifications.

I'm with Tim on this one, if you're going to bother to get a downpipe and so on, may as well go for one that is as free flowing as possible, so a 100 cell would be preferable in my opinion (unless you have absolutely no conscience and just run a straight pipe, ha); after all, you upgrade the downpipe for performance in the first place, so may as well get more performance for your $ if given the option.

Actually I wasnt condoning anything. Id think the difference between a 100 and 200 cell cat performance wise would be pretty negligible so youre better off with the 200 Cell cos at least that way youre not being an environmental vandal.

Fab probably saw a difference in performance from one DP to the other mostly because his old one was faulty.

Just putting it out there if you get caught with an 'illegal' catalytic converter you get slapped with pretty heavy fines in comparison to other mods which are a simple slap on the wrist. I think (in QLD anyway) even on a track with a non catted exhaust is still frowned upon

Fab, please post your dynos with the data, We have seen many stage 2 cars braking that 200kw mark now with multiple different combinations of exhausts and tunes. I think the highest Mainline recorded is 210kw with GIAC and milltek, we have seen 206kw on a few cars with our off the shelf combination. As long as it has the dyno data for the runs it's a good comparison.

Check your local state laws, the tailpipe sniffer test is real, and in the 14 years I have been working with modified exhausts, 100 cell never passed the tailpipe test ( we used to sell 100 cell many years ago) - so to keep people legal at a roadside check, we had to switch to 200 cell, as did APR and a lot of the US manufacturers. They cost more, but they remove twice the bad stuff.

I was going to raise the question of quality/longevity for the same reason.

Fair enough ensuring the cat is legal but to keep things 100% legal don't you need to have any modified tune certified to pass ADR79/00 anyway?
