    Towing with a TDI Golf?

    G'day All!

My name is Dave Power - i'm new here to the forum.

I've got a 2006 MKV 2.0 TDI Golf and would like to find out the maximum towing capacity for the car?

Ideally i'd like to tow a boat - but I know this may be stretching the car's friendship given it's a hatchback and suspension issues, etc.

I have no doubt that the 320nm of torque would provide plenty of pull for the towing side - but i'm asking around on opinions based on experience in the towing area and of course if anyone here is in a similar position?

Your assistance is much appreciated - and i look forward to chatting more on this forum!

    Dave

Welcome to the forums Dave Glad to have you here.

In regards to your question, I'm with you in that the TDI should be competent for towing. I made a few searches and found that the maximum towing capacity for your car should be somewhere in your manual, though I'm sure someone on here who also has a TDI can help you out

    Enjoy your stay mate.

I think that ideal towing vehicle should be little bit heavier that Golf is.

Open the drivers door and check out the sticker on the door striker post(just below). It will tell you what you want to know. Breaked and un breaked trailer. I saw it on mine today! Cheers, Gibbo

Just remember that the back wheels of a hatchback carry bugger all weight anyway because its FWD so towing a boat shouldn't be a problem.

A mazda 3MPS tows a 1.5T boat no problems what so ever, the XR6 Falcon we had before struggled in comparison.
