the dealer i got my car from was offering ECU remaps from them when you buy a new car
I would wait a little bit. I remember there was someone with a brand new Golf6 and his ECU died shortly after he picked the car up. I don't think he have done even 1500km. Imagine you tune it and ECU fails next day.
As Tim says, do at least 1,500km.

Isn't that true at any stage though ?
A risk you take tuning
What data is there on time of failure ?
Within 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 km ?
Use a tuner that will support you too.

It was a brand new car. Yes, it's not common that ECU fails in a brand new VAG car, but it did happen (maybe even in 2 cars in one year, Corey_R would probably remember), so for that reason I would wait.

VW then have to prove that the ECU failure was due to the tune - based on the massive amount of ECU tunes out there, that could be an uphill battle for them ?
Of course, but that would take a time. I remember that failed car was from QLD and he was waiting I think at least 1 month for his car to be fixed. Sure many things can go wrong with the car, but many just happen in the first 2,000km. Considering that when people buy a brand new, they drive a bit more, so it doesn't take that long to clock some kms.

Drive it crazy hard then whilst stock and then tune it and realise it doesn't need to be pushed as hard to get even better performance and economy
