The air box is a very minor hurdle you can make that fit no worries. First you need to bolt on your mani, turbo make cooler gear etc . Do it you know you want to

I am gonna do it But... just getting the bare essentials first. And then get the rest slowly and then ultimately a stage 3 tune.

To take advantage of the bigger turbo you'll need a bigger MAF tube as the increased flow will max out the stock sensors in the factory tube quite easily. You'll also need the fuel system to support that and that means injectors 4bar FPR and a new pump. The bigger turbo means that the current wastegate duty cycle values set in the tune will need to be modifed to suit- Boost control will be useless without a remap of those maps
You could run the turbo though at a much lower peak boost using the stock MAF sensor in the stock size tube with an aftermarket boost controller. Its sort of pointless as it would be pretty laggy and you'd have to watch things all the time to make sure you weren't leaning thing out up top. You could do it though.
You need a front mount too that should be your first move the stock one sux hard and makes tuning these things hell. They are tiny. Even if you were to do this intially on the tune you have now I think you may notice a difference with summer coming on. The timing pulled due to inlet temps is pretty nasty
Sebs been playing with heaps of kits from various vendors and I think he'd know which one fits

Thank you for your feedback, i do plan to upgrade the maf,injectors... however, i want to run the gt2871 for a few months before i can affford all the other parts..

I've also emailed Seb, ill get his thoughts too.

With regard to the FPR - According to Stage 3 tune (which i would ultimately get) i only need the stock FPR... maybe ill put a rising rate in temporarily?

If their tune uses the stock pressure then theres no need to go bigger. The 2871 isn't like some humongous beast. They just have the fuel maps done with X size/brand injectors at Y fuel pressure and if you change either of these then its stuffed so just go with what they use. Use the same injector size and brand to maintain dead time and latency values that they've used.

This is such a big topic... Have you read a lot of threads like this on Vortex?

Iay work fine, you may end up with s car that barely moves...

Dont get distracted on the tunes requirements, i will be buying to their specifications... but for a few months prior i will need to run the turbo on the car without any stage 3 components.

Ultimately, my question is; during that peroid without having a tune or any stage 3 components, will the car drive ok and not explode if i dont boost it beyond say 10psi

Actually the 2871 will probably use an ~8psi actuator. if you run a line from the compressor side or turbo outlet pipework back to the wastegate actuator it will limit your pressure to that of the Actuator spring ~8psi (or whatever the kit is specced with). You can't actually go lower than this value no matter what you do. So done like this its safe as far as boost control goes. You also have to check AFR's though to make sure things are happy and that you not going beyond what the ECU is setup for and leaning out so grab a vagcom cable. Check knock retard as well.
The motor is a strong beast

Buy all the bits and fit them together with the tune is my advice. You'll be well upset if it goes bang. It's not about the pressure you see on a gauge, the bigger turbo will move more volume of air at any given pressure.

No idea on the exact numbers but it is feasible that a big turbo could max out the MAF well under the pressures you are used to seeing with the K03s.
