THOUGHTS: FITTING GT2871R to stock engine without mods.. Only revo stage 1...

    Guys,

I am speaking to as many people as possible about this and reading many forums.

Atp turbos built a bolt on GT2871R kit for our 1.8T Transverse engine - 'Turbo kit includes turbo and up-pipe along with 3" upper downpipe to merge GT2871R turbo to stock exhaust manifold. Also uses upper downpipe to merge GT turbo with downpipe made for stock K03 turbo'

    My car currently as follows:

9n3 GTI 1.8T with Revo stage 1, no other supporting mods.

    My questions are:

    1) Will it run?

    2) Like ****?

    3) Other than limiting the potenial of the turbo, what are the chances with this setup i would cause engine/turbo problems, running 1bar boost or even stock boost..?

I would imagine i would need to upgrade to a better inline fuel pump and do all breathing mods, 3" dump pipe & silicone intake piping..

Feedback welcome. Some may ask why... Reason being, i am seeing members with around 140 FWKW with mods like exhaust/front mount + the rest... Which obviously would cost at least $2,000.

I strongly believe from what i've read and my own experiances, this engine is largely limited by its turbo... Why not replace it first?

Ultimately, i do plan to go full stage 3.. however, i just want to run the turbo safely on a some what cheaper setup for about 6 months.

Will I run? Maybe but like poo

Would you need new injectors? Yes

Would the tune have to be different ? Yes

What would happen if I ran it on the revo stage one? Don't know much about these things but I assume the map you have is Kkk specific which would not run the new turbo properly.

Can an unopened motor take it ? They love it never heard of a revo tune putting a leg out of bed prob happens tho

At some point the stock ecu may become limiting but again I don't know as I run a standalone

You really need a better tune to suit the turbo. As for everything else, well you will need to retune when you get all the other parts as well.

Be sure it will fit, 1.8 t trans is right, but is that for the Golf? The parts may not bolt straight up.

Interesting path, it's worth reading the BT build on the Uk Polo forum to see how it is best done.

With other stock parts you may be limited to 130-140. Talk to someone like Seb who does these sort of mods, he will point you in the right direction.

Have you dont things like suspension, brakes, clutch, remember the car has to handle and stop too

Also install of the turbo kit is $$$, different TIP, maybe different Maf too, injectors, you wont be able to use the standard airbox as well

    Most definately.

Initially i am not looking to get the max out of the turbo. So i am wondering, if i dont upgrade injectors & maf and run 7 psi will it be ok?

Neg a 71 running 7 psi is not equal to your kkk flowing 7 pounds. Really how long is a piece of spring mate but my bet is that you will end up with a car sitting in your drive waiting for 630 cc injectors

I think you might need larger Turbo Inlet Pipe for the bigger turbo, which means you need larger maf, as the stock one probably wont connect to the Turbo Inlet Pipe, which also means you cant use the airbox
