Thread: SuperChips ECU tune/reflash

  1. #81

The type of dump pipe and size of your exhaust play a large part in determining the tuned files wastegate duty cycle values. Log specified and actual manifold pressure and you'll see where the map needs to be modified. Maybe they will have a few variants to try.

Thanks for the heads up guys ...

I hope it can be resolved because its crap the way it is now ..

The Intake is APR and the exhaust is custom.

3" front pipe with 100cel hiflow cat and resonator and 2.5" catback system.

Im hoping its not too much issue to resolve as i really liked the Superchips Stg1 flash with intake and std exhaust. It was very responsive on throttle and strong in the midrange.. The Stg2 flash feels like it needs alot of work to suit my car ...
The exhaust shop i use has alot of experience in custom exhaust systems so i doubt there is a design issue with the dump pipe as many guys on here and vwgolf.net have custome exhaust aswell with no issue's ....

Different cars need different things for exhausts. It's a risk that you take getting a custom exhaust. Sometimes it can take a few goes to get it right. You wouldn't be the first person here with a MK6 car who has put a custom exhaust and stage 2 tune on, only to find they've gone backwards - the other member wasn't with Superchips either.

Having said that, without logging and testing, it's hard to know where the issue is at this stage. Obviously Superchips would have tested their product with a certain exhaust or number of exhausts and been confident enough to release the product. But maybe something needs to be tweaked to suit the exhaust you have?

Just keep calm and work with everyone to try and resolve it. It is no good pointing fingers at any one at this time, as you could swap ECUs and still have the issue!

    Thanks Corey_R,

Yeah im trying to stay calm, its more frustrating than anything after spending more $$ and looking forward to the improvement and then you get let down..
Im sure Superchips will be helpful i just need more patience.. See how we go tomorrow ...
The biggest issue i have at the moment is after spending $1500 on a full exhaust im not happy with the way the car sounds either, its 3" dump into hiflow cat and resonator into 2.5" catback, i first tried the same style as the AWE/42DD that has a mid muffler and then into split pipes to the tips .. Sounded rediculously loud and dirty..
So we then added 2 hotdog style resonators on each split pipe in the rear and that shut it up alot but now its really drowny so back to the exhaust shop tomorrow, maybe add another muffler or a resonator to the mid pipe and see what happens ... If i had known before hand this would be the trouble i would go through with a custom exhaust i would have just spent more $$ and ordered a Milltek from the UK. I cant justify spending $3000 on a APR system...

If the exhaust is too large you will lose bottom end torque. I run a hi flow 2.5" internal system on a 360+ Kw atw car of mine and yet I see guys running massive things on only mildy modded cars and its just never going to work. Ive been guilty of this on my own cars in the past and on more than one occasion too.
If you can you might want to try and see if the stock rear muffler can be mated to the new centre section that way you can experiment and see what works and what doesn't. They may have made this hard to do with a custom setup however but its worth asking is if can be made to bolt up.

    Thanks for your input ...

I hear what your saying reg pipe size but the APR is a full 3" system so it cant be that bad for the car.

I chose to go with the 3" front pipe into a 2.5" cat back system, i dont believe my pipe size is the issue at all.

I can retain the std rear muffler section if i want to as it will bolt straight up, but the cars ive heard on youtube with a 3" front pipe into a std suitcase style rear muffler sound crap !!!

I think the exhaust is close, just need to let them play around a bit, might try adding another centre muffler, maybe a resonator or if im still not happy i will try the std back box and see what its like ...

    Cheers !

Well the good news is my exhaust is perfect now, ended up adding a rear magnaflow muffler to it and it sounds superb !!!

Still waiting on bluefin to get back to my mechanic with a solution to my tune, i must say it has improved slightly since we originally flashed it but you can still feel its not 100% between 1000-4000rpm ...

If i have not heard back from Superchips by the morning im giving up on them and going with the GIAC tune as i plan to go K04 and Intercooler upgrade next and GIAC already have a tune available for these mods.

Will keep you guys posted on my progress.

    Cheers !
