supercharger kit!!!!

hey guys i need some advice! im thinking of installing a supercharger kit on my mk4 r32 within the next 12months i dont drive it daily only on weekends but i dont want a car that i have to tune every 5mins if you know what i mean i just want nice weeknd car that can eat up the little japs going around town if i need to lol...

i have had my eye on the HPA sc kit it comes with a supercharger running 8 psi the hpa short runner intake manifold and air to water intercooler i thought that might be the way to because of the different climate over here in aus but im no mechanic and i havent been the vw scence for very long so i dont really know what im talking about lol so if you guys could give me a few tips and pointout some main factors like upgrades that i would have to make to handle forced induction it would be very greatfullllll cheers

Obviously price would be a potential issue, what sort of power do you want / expect from it? Would it make fuel efficiency any worse?

Moreover, ECU program from HPA may not be compatable with our Aus R32s. So stand alone ECU may be needed...

there are already a couple of HPA SC powered mk5 R32s running about sydney. I dont think the mk4 would pose too much of a problem other than the price! From memory the MK5 kits were $25k or something! Nice bit of kit no doubt though.

i cant see anything about a mk5 sc kit on the hpa site unless it the same kit just a few little change and for the mk4 sc kit they want $8,499US

$8499 US = $9,341AU
Then add on shipping costs which would probably be about $300-$400
Then add on customs fees and import duty/GST = between $1-2k
Then add on fitting costs + standalone ECU as the mapping for Australia is quite different.

You end up in the close to 20k region.

stand alone ecu??? like a replacement ecu that has be custom tuned?

Well I don't know about Mk5 R32s but I've read a few times that our Mk4 R32s can be a PITA to tune as the ECU is different to the USA and Euro spec models. Something you would want to check at least before you commit to a 10k kit!

I drove the SC Mk4 R in sydney a couple of weeks ago.
It had the VF Engineering Stage 2 (includes front mount IC) + VF 264 cams + Techtonics exhaust.

Conversion was done in Perth at a highly reputable workshop, parts sourced through Lucas @ Eurospeed in Melbourne. Arthur at Exoticars is also familiar with the car. Ie there is a VF/GIAC partnership.

The car worked really well, I cited a few large receipts for work carried out, but none regarding the initial cost of the conversion.

AFAIK the VF kit is no longer available, and they have since gone turbo.

I was really impressed with the driveability of the SC R32, had lots of great shove, drove like OEM with a hell of a lot more.
Downsides were for me I wasnt going to sydney every 7.5k kms to get it serviced. Packaging was good, but to change air filter or headlight globes the front bar needs to come off. You need an oil catch can, because the breather drops oil straight back onto the MAF so this one kills them every 3 months. If you want more, for such a compression motor you need to do it all again.

Pluses. OEM feel, no upgrades to the drivetrain are really necessary, lots of good constant shove. No really loud supercharger whine (well more of a whistle). Twin Forge BOV's weren't overly roud or ricey and going off all the time.
