Thread: Stage 1 apr tune

It is if you want a Subaru but then would you trust yourself to do it to your own car.....

The Euros are very different too I have learnt that the hard way and the gear you need to do the job is very expensive and you need to constantly update it as the manufacturers try to keep ahead of the game. With the commonly modded Subaru's, Mitsubishi's and other denso based ECU's its as though very little has changed programming wise since 2001.
If it was open source for our cars I wouldn't be doing it either - well not for customers anyway

Yeah I guess.. I just hate all the BS that exists in the tuning market. People get so aligned, it's a most like tribal warfare. It detracts from the goal of friendly communication when people bag out suppliers/each other over which tune they've picked - in many cases to the point where person with tune X won't talk to somebody with tune Y....

Even though I always promise myself I'll never post in a tune thread, I somehow always seem to get sucked back in!!!

That will never happen. It would be nightmare for the mechanics, if every man and his dog would have a go at the ECU using the iphone and after that, even demand the car to be fixed under the warranty.

On a side note, they can and will void your powertrain warranty. I had my car flashed back to standard and they still knew.

The ECU logs various engine/powertrain parameters for some period of time/distance, which can be analysed by the dealer. Peak boost pressure, for example. A dealer looking at these stats is going to notice pretty quickly if a car's been running a tune, even if the tune itself is no longer present. Generally speaking, you wouldn't expect a dealer to go looking, but if a warranty claim is involved, all bets are off.

If you're going to tune and are concerned about these things, get a good relationship going with your service manager or independent specialist, and don't hide what you're doing. Honesty is the best policy - IMO.

    Agree with above

Also, tuner warranty is a potentially good backstop
