It's very easy for dealer to tell that the ecu was reprogrammed..
the op was asking about apr... My ecu has never been out and can be reflashed to factory if I ever needed it to be... How is that misleading?

Talk over warranty risk and theoretical scenarios is lame. As soon as you do your first oil change yourself your technically in breach of warranty anyway.

Has anybody ever heard of a dealer in Aus voiding warranty over a tune anyway?

    Yep
There have been plenty of warranties voided. The most recent I heard of was an unfortunate chap who had his gearbox synchro warranty claim denied.
VW can and will void your warranty if they feel like it. Its all part of the risk you take. Either go into it with your eyes open or dont go into it at all.

Why was it voided, due to a tune, or
Some other mod? I have no illusion that due to my mods the only thing left in warranty is my carpet, but are people being denied because of a tune?

No such thing as reflashing to factory despite the marketing hype.

Any tune is detectable even if masked with a "stock" look a like map.

    **** happens but on Stage 1 ?

    Unlikely

As Tim said, you plays you pays (sometimes multiple times)

He's quite right though I don't know where the guys keep getting these weird ideas about GTI ECU's having to be removed and that includes the edition35 . I saw this mentioned on the other forum last week too and even the cheap tools will do it, I'm pretty sure. They aint locked or anti-tuning whatever you would like to call it but then again the same was being said about the Golf R's when they first came out and maybe some places just enjoy the pain.
Many of the other models are 'locked' however but strangely not the GTI even though it quite easily could be

    Who knows

The tuners always seem to weigh in to threads like this eventually and have a little chat amongst themselves

Makes for good viewing on a slow night

From what I understand these "locked" ecus are soon to be "unlocked" by the big tuners, which means no bench flashing required.

ahh but you see in order to do that you have to remove the ECU from the vehicle and open it up and mess with things to 'unlock' it. This will be the way of the world until someone at Bosch is abducted or bribed or their 1024 bit encryption decoded...........

yes its sort of like that but you'll notice we have to keep the posts a bit cryptic and avoid any direct answers inorder to keep people guessing

Tuning should be open source! That way instead of sniping at each other, they'd be a community working towards a similar goal.
