    Seats

Hi Guys, great forum, bout time we had some aussie watercoolers.
I have been offered some seats from a Mk2 golf and want to put them into my Mk1. However, the runners seem too wide, tho the middle bit seems the same. How can i make them fit?

    Making them fit.

My old dad used to say, "Anything can be made to fit if you have the time and the patience." Do you have access to a welder? If so, cut off the parts of the seat downtube and skids that fit into the Mk2 runner, do the same with the MK1 and swap them with a weld. A bit of bending will be necessary but do it when the metal's hot to avoid cracking.

Brackie I`m surprised at you. I bet your seats dont slide smoothly after that.
The best way is to take the seat apart, undo the metal clips on the underside and swop bolsters and material, thus ending up with the new seat padding and the old seat runners.
I`ll go and take some pics of this proceedure.
I`ve done several sets and it takes about an hour per seat and they slide smoothly afterwards.

    Not pretty..or origianal!

Just stirring up a discussion (should've known better!) Never done it...But have to other cars. Put Austin 1800 "armchairs" into a Landrover and later a Landcruiser. Put Commodore buckets into a Range Rover. Had a VW Country Buggy once and put Torana buckets into it. Really, the cut and weld bit does work if you can weld. Don't know the Mk2 seats, but wouldn't it defeat the purpose to use the base of the MK1 seat?

Only the metal frame. these are all the same size, just with different padding and mounting brackets. change the base to match the seat. Thus Mk2 seats that fit a Mk1. i`ll go and take a seat apart and take pics when I have a minute.
