You'll find a lot of MK6 Golf owners have done Stage 1 (and more) and are very happy with the results.

I've got GIAC stage 1 flash on mine, goes awesome
There are a few of us now who have tunes on our Scirocco's so I figured it would be good to have a thread people can discuss the merits etc of the various tunes without it getting into a heated debate on which one has the most power etc.. it is all about the driving experience.
I will start it off... I chose to go with Viezu. Mainly based on results and feedback from Golf R owners.
Simon is a wealth of information and extremely helpful which is always a good start.
As there are no confirmed NSW Dealers just yet I decided to go with the V-Switch and 2 tunes.... a bit more expensive but worth it I think.
The V-Switch arrived well packaged and once the software was loaded onto the PC and the Switch was programmed for my model of car I was all set to download my Original file. This was completed with minimal fuss and I e-mailed off the original file with the info Viezu require.
The e-mail went a around 9pm last night and by 10.30pm I had my 2 tunes back. Performance and Motorsport.
Being impatient I decided to load up the Motorsport tune right then, so I hooked up the V-Switch, followed the instructions and away it went.
I decided not to drive it until this morning.. WOW.. it makes such a difference. The DSG changes are much better (it has a lite DSG tune for the R) and the power is just enormous..
It is still very tractable down low but you hear the turbo spool up at around 2400 rpm and then hang on once you hit 3000.... I actually had a touch of Traction Control on the change from 3rd to 4th at 4500 rpm.
The exhaust now pops rather than farts and you get the pops on over-run as well.
The R ECU has a learning function so they adapt to your normal driving patterns so it will be interesting to see how it goes over the next couple of hundred KMs.

Hmm...does sound interesting. I also received a well detailed email from Simon. I'm still in debate mode. Have asked for dyno's for a few tunes, but no one has gotten back to me yet. Looking at GIAC, and Recode (custom)....and Viezu! Would love if they had local support...which is my main factor against them at this stage.
Mind if I ask how much it set you back? Also, you know the gains you got from it? Just approx. is fine!

There are Dyno sheets for a Golf R here http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...f-r-68313.html and you should read the intro before looking at the Dyno sheets.
For me...ultimate KW figures are not what I was after so I am not too concerned with quoting Power and Torque.
As for local support... well it is coming...I know though that if I am not happy with some aspect of the tune I can e-mail or call Simon and I am pretty sure it will be addressed very quickly, just as I would expect any of the other major players to do.
I have no previous experience with GIAC or Recode, however I do know of a lovely Blue Golf R with a Recode tune and he is extremely happy with it.
As for pricing... if you are talking with Simon then you will have all the relevant info.

Great thread start Andy!
Tunes are a personal decision, which actually doesn't ulimately come down to power. For instance, I decided to go with APR due to local support and the fact I've had all of my previous VAG cars tuned with them. I know what to expect.
I've driven for about 1000km after the tune, and considering I drive my rocco daily to and from work. I can say that like Andy, there is a more audible burble between the 2500 and 3500 range. More power comes on quicker and I've had the ESC come on a few times in the wet. Which is entirely my fault, coming from Quattro to FWD, means a shift in driving style, especially in the wet.
I wouldn't certainly recommend one tune over another, each to their own. I will however recommend, tuning it, you won't regret it![]()
MY12 Scirocco R - slightly not stock
So which ECU is worth getting, bluefin seems easy to install and cost a lot less than the rest of the ECU upgrades in the market, is there any bad points with bluefin.
