    Yes 100% agree it's not about the peak number but how the car drives that matters.

    Having had a switchable tune on my S3, I don't consider it a valuable feature. Only ever used it once and the std setting was shocking to drive.

    The lack of 98 isn't that big a deal, all cars would run on lower octane fuel at reduced power for a short time. Until some 98 could be found. I have done plenty of road trips between Brisbane/Sydney/Adelaide/Melbourne and only once had to buy 95, because I tried to go one town further to maximise daylight.

    Yes I also had a switchable tune in my first Tig and never once used the function.

    I have revo tune on my golf r mk7. Not as aggressive as APR but heaps cheaper and better dealer experience.

    I'd just be checking who does a tune for your car. Most tuners have a file for a Golf R or GTI but not everyone does the lower power models as there's less call for it. The 1.8l 132TSI is similar to the engine in the Passat, however there's some differences. Golf has CJSB engine vs. Passat uses CJSA. It may be that the Golf is connected to 6 speed DSG vs Passat using the 7 speed... but I'm only guessing.

    I have a removable tune on my car. I put it on while still in warranty at about 30,000km. It's been "removed" twice in 8 years / 140,000km. Not a feature I'd bother with again.

    Definitely give APR a go, if your ecu type has been tuned before it should be able to be loaded via OBD (diagnostics port). They can load a tune to try before you buy. My local dealer VW Park in Nunawading is fantastic, great customer focus and great service. The prices have come down over the last month given that each Australian APR dealer is now dealing direct with APR USA and avoiding the middleman.
