    Revo stage 1 ecu on jetta 2.0 tdi

    Hi All
    I am debating on getting a Revo stage 1 ECU flash for my 07 Jetta 2.0 Tdi 6 speed manual vehicle.
    It promises more power approx 125 kw and torque , however I have a couple of questions before deciding

    1. will it improve driveabilty and is it noticeably "faster'
    2. will it stress the turbo and other components and reduce lifespan
    3. Will economy drop by much or be much the same

    I hope some Revo- experienced listers can comment or add to the above

    The questions and associated answers are the same regardless of which company's tune you go for - on the 2.0TDI, the car is noticeably faster with a wider powerband - this is because the turbocharger boost profile is ramped up earlier and held longer than the default programming; so yes, the car will not only be more drivable but also noticeably faster.

    The turbo will be stressed out more; but with adequate maintenance and care (ie. warming up/cooling down), longevity/lifespan should not be significantly affected.

    Economy during idle/low-load scenarios should be noticeably better, however obviously with increased turbocharger boost, the engine is capable of burning alot more fuel as well, so if you are heavy footed, you will end up using more fuel.

    Hope that helps; also there are various other tunes you can go for than the Revo. =)

    Thanks for the information. I will have to now consider the budget and whether I really need the added performance (silly question, isnt it)

    I can't comment on the Revo tune side of things, but why are you worrying about economy in a diesel? Good luck getting into 8L/100k mate!
    My GT flogged gets mid 6's all day every day. I've driven a few chipped 103's and they are night and day different, FAR more grunt than my GT down low, the torque is usually well over the stock 125kw/350nm GT. If you stick with a name brand, tried and proven tune in the 103, you will have no problems. There were indeed several failures early on, but it seems all the tunes have been refined, and they no longer get into the surge area which was popping impellers off the turbo shaft. I haven't heard of a 103 turbo failing for some time, whereas in 2008 when I started into diesels several went that year alone.

    Can't mess with the low down torque of the 2.0TDI that's for sure; GT is quicker car though.

    Almost all tuners have settled on a 125kW/375Nm rating on the 103kW 2.0TDI upgrade; the axial loads exerted at this level of torque/power is within design limits of the standard turbocharger and the compressor remains in a zone of good efficiency.

    Upgrades to the exhaust can also help to pull the turbo further back within its zone of maximum efficiency to improve power, fuel consumption, and to reduce strain/rpm on the compressor itself.
