    Resonator and muffle removal

Hi guys, i want to get a little noise out of the van so was thinking of removing the rear muffler and resonator. Not for performance, just to get a little noise out of the exhaust. I read somewhere that removing the resonator might cause an engine light? Any idea if thats likely to be the case? And if so, how to fix? I'm going to get a ecu remap, so maybe do the muffler before that?

You really won't gain too much noise from removal. You probably won't gain much power either.

That said ill be removing the cat and rear muffler on ours in due course. (2.5 TDi)

Removing the very rear muffler helps liberate a little noise, especially around 2000rpm, but to be honest the change is minimal and none of these changes will cause any sort of error. Only the cat, and DPF if present, are in any way monitored. Car would be unable to tell if you dropped the entire cat back, so go to town.

42DD have a performance resonator option, which replaces just the rear resonator, when used with the rear pancake in place it makes a considerable difference, and in the GTI at least, this is where they found the main restriction. I'd suggest replacing the axle resonator with a sports hotdog style, and seeing how it sounds. It seems the rear pancake isnlt restrictive, but in my car at least, removal of the rear didn't make much difference. I'd be going the resonator route if I wasnlt planning an entire 42DD cat back, just because I have one "lying around" : )

Check out the sound clips to see what I mean on the product page...
