12v ecu can run the 24v easy. Just won't have vvt and you'll need to use a 12v coikpack.

Megasquirt can do everything. Bar direct injection.

I'm using a megasquirt on my r32 motor, controlling exhaust and intake vvt, as well as nitrous, big squirters.

    Thanks Gavin...
Just got to find a reasonably priced motor now..

    Hayden,
What sort of dollars for the megasquirt and what model did you choose..?
I was quoted 2.5k for a Haltech system but it blows the budget and may be overkill if I don't need variable
    settings..

Bit of a killer now we aud. But can be tuned, and running for around $1000. Cheaper if you fully diy.

Ms3x can control everything as it is. So it's a great choice and significantly cheaper than an equivalently equipped haltech

If it makes the motor run the same way as factory , its a great price compared to Haltech..
    Time to start looking.
Would the immobiliser defeat still need to be done with the Ms3x..?

Thanks for the ECU lessons too.!
    I'm slowly learning...

No immo in the mega squirt. Depending on the price you pay for the std ecu. With no need to tune the ecu. You'll be adhead staying oe.

Do you think you could make one run on std ecu so easily?

    In a mk3?

On a basic level I do. Installer ability is going to be a factor. I don't see it as being harder than making a MS from scratch. TBH even as a major part of my working life I have spent making looms and installing electronics. I would pick the OE gear over a 3rd party.

Looking at what the engine/any engine needs. Once there's a petrol pump in the picture, the only potential issues is adequate flow and pressure.

After that the ECU needs a number of grounds, power and ignition switching. The ECU has 2 plugs, essentially one goes to the engine for the ignition, injectors and sensors etc. The other into the car for the switching and control.

As long as you haven't been given a pile of scrap for looms, by the engine supplier. I don't think it could be so hard to do.

The diagrams are downloadable for a few euros. Here's the ones for the Polo as an example of what you get.

How to defeat the immo is in here if you aren't scared by DOS style commands. 403 Forbidden

    Hi Gavin,
I'm now looking for a low Km mk4 R32 motor with OE ECU and loom.

Are you able to quote a cost to disable any ancillaries not needed but keep those needed to run motor, cruise control and tacho ?

I would send ECU to you from Melbourne.

    Regards Tony .
