    Hi Wayne, Hope all is well.

    We love the Alcons because of the repeatability in performance & brake pedal feel. Depending on the pads you use, they can be pretty silent. If you use the Ferodo DS 2500, they are good for daily driving. We use the PMU HC 16 + for track work & actually James runs those on his daily driver Golf Stage 3 & they don't make any noise.

    The Calipers make a small "clunk" when you roll forward or backwards, just the caliper to pad clearance, but once you are used to it, you wont notice it.

    I like cars that stop faster than it goes! Seriously, for me, brakes are just as important as the go fast bits. But I hear you, it may be an overkill.

    I am good Guy. Hoping to see your Cayman Turbo one of these days! All going well with it?

    I will see what the stock brake is like first I guess. Planning to do a mountain run with our Clio RS and a modded Mk1. Should be fun. But chances are the brakes won't hold up so Alcon may be a good option. What do they cost?

    The Cayman is still a lot of fun, just got back from the Bathurst Easter motor festival - Nothing like pulling 6th down Conrod straight & sailing past 270kmph

    I'll have to work out what the brakes cost (I think around $3300 once we get the bracket costing finalised), good thing is they are small diameter & light (saves about 8kg per side!), you can still run a 17" wheel (keep the weight down too) and a reasonable tyre.

    The Cayman sounds like it is faster than a GT3...is that the case?

    What size rotors come with the Alcon? As well as being fade free, is it also much more powerful? I know when I put the AP's on, the first thing I realise is how much faster it stops the car!

    Depending on where we are running, it's at least an equal to an new 3.8 GT3 -

    P.S. The Cayman now runs Alcons all round.



    We are running a narrow 328mm Alcon rotor on the Polo (I think 312's are standard).

    We are running a narrow 328mm Alcon rotor on the Polo (I think 312's are standard).
    288mm, same as previous polo GTI and Mk4 Golf GTI So it's a big jump in rotor diameter!

    Wow 288 is pretty small for a car that can go pretty quick and weigh 1200kg. I think the MkV GTI was 312 and I felt it was insufficient for hot mountain runs, let alone the track.
