Hmm Thanks Guys, I might leave the engine alone for quite a while, I also invested in a 3yr extended warranty so 6 years total so fingers crossed no troubles.
From my VW contacts , the only engines they have seen/are still seeing failing are all stock. All the tuned ones are much happier and the reason being is that this is what happens when you stop running the AFRs so terribly lean as occurs with the earlier stock files.

Read the fine print on th eextended warranty - that will tell you what you can & can't do (pretty much nothing).

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
Might have been a forced decision anyway, as I'm not sure anyone has a tune for the latest generation 1.4s as in the new Beetle. Certainly APR haven't cracked it yet as I'm still waiting for the tune for my Beetle, and I haven't heard if any of the other big players have cracked it yet.
What year is yours? My son in law has 2011 Golf6 118TSI and there is an Autologic performance tune for it. It could be worthwhile to you to find the independent VW mechanic in your area who has the Autologic diagnostics, I find their tunes as very good. They're only stage1 though, but very refined.

I got an email back from the ABT outlet in nsw. They are doing a piggyback plugin ecu for the 2013 *Beetle 1.4 TSI 118 kW (160 HP), 240 Nm to ABT 154 kW (210 HP), 290 Nm*-*$ 2,590.00 incl. GST
Not sure if its any good or not. Also can the oem still detect if there has been a pighyback computer installed ? Will the factory computer sense its there and log the warranty denied code ?
Im really liking ABT's 20 inch wheels but they are bloody expensive !! $6500 for rims and tires
