Oil Service before APR Stage 1

I am looking at doing the APR stage 1 in 3 weeks time when my car is 6 months old and due for a service then.

Should I bother to do this (the service which is essentially an oil/filter change) as the car only has 4000km?

Yes you should bother (I certainly would). Fresh oil can only benefit your engine in the long run and especially the first oil change, as the original factory-fill oil could contain minute particles shaved off the engine internals during the initial running in period.

I was thinking the same thing as my GTI is coming up to 6mnths soon and I am getting it Bluefinned.
I think its more peace of mind than anything else, but maybe someone will chime in with something.

Is it all short trips or does it spend time in the garage being unused?

Many owners who do low kms like you, don't change the oil until they do 15,000km. You would be doing 1 service every 3 years.....

These are the same cars that down the track have low kms and require engine rebuilds, have **** breaking, bits leaking etc.

You see this with motorbikes all the time. That's how the stigma that a motorbike only lasts 25,000km got started.

If it was me, i'd be changing the oil.

Is the interval not 15000ks, if so I'd not be doing the oil change until you had at least half that up. This is personal opinion, not VWs. I'd do the tune without worrying about the oil if it was my car.

+1. Further, bear in mind that it has been suggested that VW prefer that the factory-supplied oil isn't changed until the first scheduled service (12 months or 15,000km), and might complain should warranty work need to be carried out that related to internals/wear etc.

This topic is discussed at length in the Mk6 forum.
