Hi all as title suggests need feedback about whether or not to put a oil catch can to my Mk6 GTI? Also what's brands are recommended? I saw skemthing about saying the eBay ones are fine.

I run a Forge catch can with an Afrika plate. I empty about 100ml/1000km of horrible looking gunk out of it.

It works really well except the sight glass is a bit of a stupid spot (designed for LHD vehicles).

It was a bit of a pain emptying it until I slotted the mounting bracket.

You'll find them on Aliexpress for about half of what they cost elsewhere.

As mentioned by Brad above, you need a specific PCV block off plate to suit the engine in your car, and without that you cant make a catch can work.

These plates are referred to as an "Africa" plate (presumably because of their shape) and they replace the factory fitted PCV valve on your engine. Theoretically, once you have fitted one of these plates, you could run a $20 ebay catch can.....but you may as well get a proper can with the perforated internal channels and steel mesh to separate the oil/air properly (the cheap ebay cans are just empty inside).

Brands like 034motorsport, BSH, Forge, CTS and Katecool are the ones that come to mind. Expect to pay $600 or so for a good one, unless you can find something on Aliexpress like brad mentioned.

Here's about 6 weeks of goop that would have gone into the inlet.
