Does anyone have any insight into how much a replacement MKV GTI ECU will cost + labour for installation, a price from the dealer and then from a VW specialist?
Unfortunately looks like I might need to replace mine.
I'd say close to 3K all up you will need the dealer to do it too most likely as far as setting things up to suit your own car's VIN immo and so on
My friend just recently paid for a new ECU in his Mk5 GTI. It cost him $3,300 including installation and coding etc. That was through the VW dealer.
This was about 2-3 months ago.
I did one about a year ago for $2k , ordered it pre-programmed so it was plug and play , did take nearly 2 months to get it though

I was quoted $550 a few years ago for the dealer to re-associate a new ECU's immobilizer, with instrument cluster, etc.
So, if you're feeling a little adventurous, you could quite possibly for instance get an ECU off fleabay and then get the dealer to sort out the syncing of the various bits in your car.

If you want to save some cash and can afford to have the car off the road for a few weeks then this could be an option.

Ive used a service like that before for my GF's Peugeot. Worked a treat given the alternative was a similar price. Think it may have been this company.
