Just a quick Q Aaron, do these housings just take your average run of the mill K&N pod filter inside? How are they fixed in there?
Cheers

Forever blowing bubbles.
It comes with a filter which I haven't bothered pulling out, but I don't see any reason why a similar sized filter couldn't fit in there since you are supposed to be able to take it out to clean it.... something I haven't done yet
I will assume it would just be a standard 2.5" or 3" neck inside there.

Cool thanks Aaron, I got a 3" neck K&N pod on at the moment but am thinking of doing something like you've done but wanted to be sure the pod I have would fit in the canister. I assume the top or bottom of the canister comes off somehow?

Thanks for the info Aaron

Forever blowing bubbles.
7 months on and it's going great.
I haven't flooded the engine with water, even in serious rain, which I was a little concerned with, but I am a little aware of the intake hose's location, no driving through small lakes or flooded roadways, but in normal conditions it hasn't missed a beat.
I have pulled it apart and to clean/inspect the filter and it's all good (I forgot to measure it up for those interested in a K&N replacement), a few leaves and bits but really only a few, nothing like what I expected considering the suction this thing can provide at even half noise.
Speaking of noise. Yep, still love that aspect, You can't help but put the heater on full and drive with the windows down sometimes
On the K&N thing, I don't know that it would make any difference, I'm reasonably confident that the stock filter in these things has more than enough surface area and little enough restriction that it's not going to make any difference, so I'll be sticking with the oem part for the moment. One day, if I ever need to replace the filter I'll consider K&N, but like I said, I'm not convinced it would make a different in this case.
So in summary, for $169 I think it was a bargain, going from a dodgy pod to a decent pod to something which will not only pass a rego inspection, but also provides a steam of cold air is always a good thing.
I will add a BUT! While I don't have any sort of testing to back up my theory, I believe the biggest restriction will be in the MAF itself. A swiss cheesed airbox + K&N filter will go most of the way to doing what this setup does, so if thats what you have I wouldn't be rushing out to upgrade. Having said that, if you still have the stock box and filter, this isn't all that much more than the K&N filter alone so is well worth your cash and you get cold air goodness.
