    MkVII GTI - Tune/Exhaust

    Hey all,

Looking at some performance upgrades for my GTI and wondering who knows what's best, reputable or even recommended based on what they've done or experienced.

CPI are offering a stage 1 ECU tune with free DSG tune for around $900.
    162kw > 200kw
    350nm > 400nm

REVO are offering stage 1 for around $1100 (I think)
    162kw > 230kw
    350nm > 430nm
(is this too much for a FWD car?!)

Also looking at some exhaust systems. I have my heart set on the Milltek Sports cat-back system after hours of YouTube research - but am tossing up between a tune OR the exhaust (maybe both . . . ).

    Thoughts?

APR and REVO are well known brands who are slighlty more expensive but know there stuff, also better gains and a lot of research. The Figures quoted for APR and REVO are max figures when there tunes are set for 98 petrol(they come with 3 selections and if you go onto the apr or revo website you will know what i am talking about) which means if you want you can run the car at the stock levels and change the tune dependent on how you feel like driving.

Overall if you want noise, go for the exhaust, if you want performance go the tune. I personally always end up doing both but most tuners will tell you the best "1st option" when it comes to modifying a car is always a tune. You may also get better drivability and fuel economy aswell
All in all your choice. Either way i hope you enjoy.

I will be going the APR Tune (when ready) for my Golf R and have already bought the non-resonated turbo-back Milltek exhaust. I have had the cat-back fitted already and absolutely looooove the sound, so does my partner also and she hates the sound of 3" exhausts on Jap cars but finds the note of the non-resonated Milltek nice.

    APR tune costs $1650 and details are here;

A cat-back exhaust doesn't really do anything other than noise since it is still restricted from the turbo. Doing the tune will allow you to add the exhaust either cat-back or turbo-back later on.

Go & see Mark (Parso rex on this forum) at Recode in Miranda (it's not as far from Campbelltown as you think - I do it 10 times a week). He'll hook you up with a good tune to suit your budget & can probably help with hardware either now or later.

230kW and 430Nm will be difficult to fully utilise in a FWD car for sure. Short changing 1st will definitely be required but the kick in 2nd gear should be pretty damn impressive.

I know this post hasn't been here long but I've already made my mind up ...

REVO stage 1 with a new air filter. When the stage 2 software is available I'll get a turbo back exhaust.

Highly recommend the APR tunes, I recently got to see the amount of time invested in the tune on a new product. Well over 100hrs of time and many dyno runs as well as road tests. Just to ensure the tune was safe for Aus climates.

    Also support is available.
