    MkII GTI - 1.8 8v EV k-Jet - Turbo

    Hi all,

Wondering about in the future if I was to turbo a MkII GTI, its the 1.8 8v EV k-Jet. I have found some parts around the place that should work, I understand most would have to be custom, and things like oil pumps, fuel pumps would have to be upgraded.

For instance, 8v 1.8 MkII - Ex Mani:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...Name=WDVW&rd=1

The motor has cams done already, but my main things is about the turbo itself...

It seems near impossible to find any info on what size of turbo to go for... and building relating to this kind of a motor being turbo'd and are few and far.

Anyway, my real (major, but not only) question out of this is:
What size turbo would you run?
I am looking for around 170-220hp (fly wheel), stock is 110hp (I believe), however, the EV k-Jet I hear is rumored to make 130hp...?

My initial thinking is along the lines of a Garrett GT20, but searching says that something more of a GT25 would be required to make boost up high, but this is mainly around newer engines, which I can only imagine rev much higher...

    What are your thoughts?

And if you have any input on the project/any links that may be useful, I would be very pleased for people to contribute.

    Thanks,

hey mate, look at the restoration and project section. There is a build of a 1.8 K-Jet turbo motor in a mk1. Every thing in there is proven and its a very VERY fast package

Tim is using a T3 off a Saab

You'll be doing yourself a big favour reading Tim's thread. Cluey guy. Knows his stuff and definitely did a good job on his thing.

If you run less boost than what he is pumping into it you'll still make close to 200hp and you'll be able to do it all day.

However, working with mechanical injection is not easy and you really do need to know what you are doing. (Not knowing your background, i thought i'd better mention that. )

Have you spoken to Peter at CVWC. What he doesn't know about turboing a VW motor isn't worth knowing.
