Couldn't agree more.. I would be expecting similar gains as to Mk6 - perhaps less on the more valuable torque front given VW have obviously upgraded stock performance significantly in that regard already.

Any news on when tunes are going to become available?

Hey I wasn't the one that was suggesting that you'd want a DP and tune... if the mk7 was anything like the mk6.

Of course I know you said that you weren't going to mod your GTI and I respect that. Anyone that can leave their car stock has far more self control than me

The guys I work with overseas have had the factory Damos files for some time now which means from a tuners point of view you can then in theory access all the required maps that you need to modify BUT what we don't have is a way to read and write the file from and then back to the ECU. APR have a bit of a head start here as VW of America gave them the RSA keys (lucky b@stards ) so they would be the first option to come to the party one would think.
I have a few ex golf R owners with S3's now keenly waiting on some options but at the moment its only the interceptor devices which pretty much all come out of the one place in Germany. I'm fairly sure Superchips will have one of those shortly.

I heard that Golf R Mk7 has a bigger IHI turbo than the K04 turbo came with MK6 Golf R. Also new R has upgraded fuel pump as well. So I think stage 1 tune will be massive jump when they are tuned!

Yes except that the engine is still a 2L so if you want to make more power you typically have to run a bigger turbo. A turbo is essentially an air pump with a specified cfm rating and that value determines effectively what power you can theoretically generate (everything else being equal). At the end of the day the smaller turbo makes less top end power but spools earlier and the bigger turbo spools later and makes more top end power. Lag does not equal a good daily driver and that of course equates to sales. You can of course apply some cool modifications to improve spool and that way you can to a point keep that larger top end power figure by using the larger turbo and this appears to be what they have done by integrating the whole manifold internally pretty much. Yes it will be interesting to see what they have done but I'll err on the conservative side for now and hope for more

Thats exactly it . Its an air pump !
Tuners who give bigger figures than others are pulling your leg to make sales .
People fall into the trap of numbers on a piece of paper or fancy website . If it cant be backed up on a racetrack its all hearsay !

Just an interesting update regarding the Mk7 tune...

Here is a link to the update/information - promising indeed.

Actually they gave them some magic beans & found the encryption keys at the top of a giant beanstalk (around a unicorns neck) - that is about as believable as VW giving APR the encryption keys.

What they actually did was assemble an electrical engineering team (including engineers who worked for VW / Audi / Bosch & Siemens) to "unlock" the ECU. As much as I would love to advertise the fact that APR are the only people being given "keys" unfortunately its far from the truth.

Correct - the turbochargers on the equivalent variants (Golf R vs R, GTI vs GTI) are proportionally larger than the last model, so the stage 1 / 2 numbers are at a larger percentage gain than before. So expect ~ 80 odd HP plus out of the GTI, and even more out of the R. Exciting times ahead
