Thread: Mk6 Golf R Tuning Questions

  1. #21

You can always tell if the car has been flashed if you know what to look for, same goes for aftermarket parts being fitted and so on. What you do need is a mod friendly dealership that doesn't just blame everything on a tune.

    Here's a Golf R from Friday.

Almost finished here, it will do a low to mid 12 second quarter now which the others above will not

IIRC the VW computers now flag any car that has been tuned and record it as such - but as suggested above, that doesn't mean a good dealer wont still go into bat for you on warranty claims.

Anyhow, loving the new car. It's DSG and i'm looking to get it tuned. Preferably something that is reversible in case of warranty issues.

The research i've done suggests that most Stage 1 tunes offer the same kind of performance increase. Not sure at this stage if i will delve deeper into Stage2/3 so i'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent tune from a trustworthy dealer that's well priced (Trust being the key word after my horrific dealings in the past). I'm based in Sydney (Inner West)

And for those that have tuned their Golf R's, are there any issues that may arise from having a stage 1 tune?

If i go for Stage 2 or 3 is it possible to reverse those in case of warranty issues?

    Cheers in advance
The best time we have had a customer run with a Golf R (Stage 2 - downpipe, intake / pump & software) is 12.2 @ 112mph (full weight DSG) - the stage 3 cars are running 11.5 - 11.3 full weight on street tyres.

That is if 1/4 mile times are of interest to you.

Let us know if you would like to see a 1 on 1 dyno comparison on your own car - we can arrange that through one of our Sydney dealers.

All our dealers are well versed with the warranty system and will be able to assist you with what ever you require. Very shortly the 1000'th MK6 Golf R will be tuned by us - maybe we should have a Mystery prize to the 1000th one modified?

    Here is our dealer list:

APR - High Performance Development for Audi, VW and Porsche Vehicles.

    Cheers Guys

I went with the Stage 1 APR tune through Volksmuller. It's a subtle tune and i would have liked more from it, but non the less i am happy with it. Needless to say, more tunes and mods will be coming in the near future!
