I have just decided on a tune for my car after shopping around for the past few months trying to decide who was going to be the best value for money and offer good support. Have finally decided on DNA Tuning who are a forum sponsor, Lucas who has a Golf R has a long and detailed thread on his tuning/mod experience and its well worth a read if you are just starting to consider tunes. I will post a thread later once I've got my tune up and running and let you know my experiences in detail.

Just reading this DNA thread - did you go for the mild or aggressive stage 1 tune?

Cannot speak highly enough of DNA and John from Melbourne who is the distributor of DNA here in Oz. I have both my Mk6 R and Mk6 GTI tuned with DNA, and my friend has a Mk5 GTI tuned with them too.

I picked up an ex demo Golf R a couple of months ago after having a nightmare with an R32 which i bought from a VW dealer. Had numerous issues which resulted in them taking it back 3 months later and swapping for the Golf R.

Anyhow, loving the new car. It's DSG and i'm looking to get it tuned. Preferably something that is reversible in case of warranty issues.

The research i've done suggests that most Stage 1 tunes offer the same kind of performance increase. Not sure at this stage if i will delve deeper into Stage2/3 so i'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent tune from a trustworthy dealer that's well priced (Trust being the key word after my horrific dealings in the past). I'm based in Sydney (Inner West)

And for those that have tuned their Golf R's, are there any issues that may arise from having a stage 1 tune?

If i go for Stage 2 or 3 is it possible to reverse those in case of warranty issues?

    Cheers in advance
We can of course provide a full custom tune and upgrade path locally and I'm fairly sure the results will eclipse any of the options mentioned above We know the Golf R very very well.

The mild vs aggressive option is only for the stage 1 tune (as far as im aware). I got the aggressive version. By aggressive it just means that you get a "proper/full strength" stage 1 tune, whereas the mild version is a slightly watered down tune to cater for those who only want a milder increase in power/torque.

As mentioned, i had the aggressive stage 1 and it was a strong tune, but still totally controllable/driveable when pottering around/traffic etc. Alot of people seem to think that getting a tune will "ruin" the car in terms of driveability - this is not the case with modern cars and modern ECU's. In fact, 99% of my driving is pottering around the city (i dont take my car to the race track or anything) - so if the tune had ruined the cars driveability, i would have removed it long ago.

You get a hand controller that you use to download a copy of your cars original tune, then you email it to DNA. DNA then send you back a new tune and you use the hand controller to upload the DNA spec tune to your car. The hand controller keeps a copy of your stock tune for if you ever need to revert back to stock.

I went with aggressive stage 1, and also bought stage 3 for future mods as part of the advertised package. We have a dyno day here in Adelaide in a few weeks so will post some numbers then too.
