    Miltek Exhaust Issue

So i recently bought a 2nd hand Miltek Cat Back and had it fitted, it was in a bit of a mess and had some different pipe connected to it.

Then a few weeks later i had a brand new APR downpipe fitted. The guys i used to do the work (Volksmuller) had a few issues getting the 2 connected due to the different pipe that was used on the Cat Back.

Anyway the result wasn't great and i was left with an ugly back end where the tail pipe sticks out way too far, way too low and the back box is way too low aswell.

I took the car in to Hi Tek Mufflers while i was getting my hair cut to see what they could do and the guy got it up over the pit and said it was a real mess how it had all been connected up, which obviously explains why everything was sticking out so much at the back.

He said that he would need to replace all the connecting pipe going from the cat back to the downpipe and quoted me $380. Does this seem like a fair price?

He said that it currently had 2.75" pipe but he didn't have any and could either use 2.5" or 3", which i said i'd rather have 3" as i might take it to stage 3. Would there be any issues with getting the work done with 3" pipe when it currently uses 2.75"?

He did say that it would make it a bit louder, which doesn't really bother me too much. He also said that if i got the 2.5" pipe it would increase low end torque but drop it on the high end and vice versa if i got the 3" pipe fitted. Is this the case?

    Thanks

You might want to post in Recommended Repairers and Parts Suppliers or General Discussion to get feedback on a specific workshop.

Hi Tech are a pretty well known and regarded exhaust shop - i dont think they could stuff it up any more than it already is by the sounds of it.

The Milltek's use 2.75" pipework, so unless you want them to order in this specific pipe just for you, i would just go with 3" as thats what all the other exhaust manufacturers use for the Golf R exhaust systems. The stock exhaust on a Mk6 Golf R is 2.4" so you may as well go bigger if you have the opportunity.
